4.0 out of 5 stars Works great
I purchased this to use with my D300. It came in a basic no thrills box and came with the batteries. It has worked fine. I went on a three day workshop and used it every day all throughout the day. When I used it all day I left it on the camera the entire time and screwed it into the plug - when in my home studio I just plug it in without screwing it down, it stays on...

DO NOT BUY THIS REMOTE!

I was attracted by the cheap price, but in retrospect I wish I had bought the genuine Nikon one (ML-3)... This is a generic design shared by several knock-off brands. The build quality is very low, and after a couple months of light use, it just broke apart today. The jack to plug it to the camera is not made to last at all, and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Release for Nikon D300, D200, D100, D2X, D2XS, D3 Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I purchased this to use with my D300. It came in a basic no thrills box and came with the batteries. It has worked fine. I went on a three day workshop and used it every day all throughout the day. When I used it all day I left it on the camera the entire time and screwed it into the plug - when in my home studio I just plug it in without screwing it down, it stays on just fine. Overall I probably shot about 1000 pictures with it and it seems to be going fine. If I ever get to the point of convincing myself to put a piece of velcro on my camera, then I will secure it to the camera with a piece of velcro; I'm afraid that it dangling and swinging will eventually put stress on the wires and break them, but so far so good and still velcro free. There are some visible dip switches on the remote, but I didn't buy it for its look, I bought because of the good price. The switches enable you to change the frequency if needed.

I bought the Opteka wireless remote shutter release to use with my Nikon D300. The product works fine. The range is good and so far it's fired flawlessly. It's a good, simple wireless remote release... just wish I'd paid a little less for it.

The jack to plug it to the camera is not made to last at all, and repeated attachment and removal of the receptor eventually showed that. The jack simply broke away from the wire. Looking at the internals it was only glued with some crappy silicon gel, so no wonder.

Spare yourself the trouble and go with another option.

Works great even from a distance. My only gripe is that it doesn't use standard batteries which makes replacing them in a pinch rather difficult. remove the batteries after every use and you'll be safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Range not as expected, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Release for Nikon D300, D200, D100, D2X, D2XS, D3 Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
All in all, a good product, but I just paced off the range at approx. 95ft with a clear line of sight and open, flat and level terrain. Claims of "up to 320ft (100m)" would appear, in my experience, to be exaggerated.Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Release for Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, XTi, XS, XSi, T1i & Powershot G10 Digital SLR Cameras --

Worked only once - then never again... The battery did not appear to fit correctly so it kept switching off and then coming on and taking a picture at the wrong moment... Will now try another brand...

4.0 out of 5 stars Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Shutter Release for Nikon D200, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Opteka Wireless Radio Remote Release for Nikon D300, D200, D100, D2X, D2XS, D3 Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I wanted an inexpensive shutter release to avoid the use of the timer for group photos and long exposures. Although inelegant to have the receive dangling off the camera, the remote works great. The dip switches on the front of the receiver seem hazardous to the operation of the Opteka but, so far, have not presented a probem.

I use this remote with my Nikon D300, and usually when doing macro photography. I use the remote to remove any vibration from the shot that pressing the button with my hand would introduce. I'm only a couple feet away, so I haven't really tested the range. All in all, it works fine. I half press the button to focus, and then give it a full click to take the shot. It's simple and works fine. The remote uses CR2 size batteries, and initially I was concerned, but they were easy to find, I got them at my local best buy.

7/16/2010 Update

This remote chews through batteries, the costs of just the batteries make it not worth buying.
