While the practical applications of "Fiber Optic Splices and Connectors" are somewhat dated, the book was the first compilation of foundational theory and practical fundamental understanding of joining optical fibers. The theory is proven with extensive experimental data. The information presented in this book will be useful to scientists, engineers and technicians. It is also an excellent optical engineering course textbook.
