A Sensible Approach to Healthy Eating,
This review is from: 101 Optimal Life Foods (Paperback)
I love Dave Grotto's take on living the healthiest life possible: enjoy the most powerful foods on the planet, with an emphasis on enjoy. With 101 Optimal Life Foods, Dave offers reliable information based on scientific evidence (a big plus for me, as a registered dietitian ) about why eggs are good for your skin; how pistachios help to protect your eyesight; and how eating salmon soothes aching muscles. Plus, he provides nutritious and delicious recipes (Winter White Bean Chili looks yummy!) so that you can easily prepare the foods that will help you get healthy, and stay that way.

Too much focus on menus/recipes,
By brooke "bzhealthyreading" (Columbus, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 101 Optimal Life Foods (Paperback)
I have two major complaints with this book. #1 One of the main reasons this book was disappointing to me was the focus on recipes and specific menu suggestions. The entire second half of the book was strictly recipes and much of the first portion centered around suggested daily menus (For example...Day 1 breakfast: eat this, this and this. Day 2 Lunch: eat this, this and this). There wasn't enough focus on HOW and WHY certain foods can help combat various health concerns. Food suggestions are great--what I was hoping to learn--however it was presented as a detailed micro-management of daily menus. #2 The book seemed directed to people who currently make unhealthy food choices and want to begin more healthy eating. If you already incorperate good food choices in your diet, there is a lot of uselss information. Perhaps somebody who wants extremely specific direction and/or someone with little-no understanding of healthy foods may enjoy it more.

Once again Dave Grotto has written a book that educates about how to eat for health. His receipes are fun and easy to follow and make adding his recomended foods into meal planning easy. As a mother of twins I apprecaite his real life experiance in feeding a family and how children react to food their parents want to eat. His style is enjoyable and this is a very readable book.

Eating Healthy Foods that Taste Good isn't Hard,
By
This review is from: 101 Optimal Life Foods (Paperback)
David Grotto does it again with his second book "101 Optimal Life Foods". A lot of people think that eating healthy means boring, bland food for your taste buds. Not true! This book brings good tasting foods out to help us heal many of our common ailments with the foods that we love. Grotto covers the why, what and how and gives you the tasty recipes to drive right in and get to work. You will not be disappointed with this book. If you want even more information about eating a healthy diet for the foodie - buy Grotto's first book "101 That Could Save Your Life".

I purchased this book hoping to find a list of 101 good foods that could in general improve my health. There is no straight-forward listing of those foods. The book is divided into chapters related to health conditions: here's what you should eat if you have acne, cold feet, migraines, insomnia, diarrhea, gas, arthritis, etc.
The same author has written a book called "101 Foods that can Save Your Life" and looking at the index and table on contents of that one, I see it's what I should have purchased. This book only makes the most scanty passing references to cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. This book may have some good recipes in it: I need to try them. But overall the focus is for readers who are dealing with specific health conditions that are not the huge, cosmic, life=threatening ones. It may be a decent family reference. I was disappointed and will probably donate my copy to the library at some point soon. My mission is to try to find the best and most helpful books for those with heart failure, diabetes, and cancer.

Everyone needs this book!,
This review is from: 101 Optimal Life Foods (Paperback)
I seriously love this book! I've been suffering from "monthly" migraines since I was in college and the only relief has been from prescription meds. I followed the woman's section focusing with some of the preferred supplements for migraine sufferers and within the first month I went from a 3-4 day migraine to a one day migraine that actually did go away with much less of my meds. I've incorporated some of the foods and supplements in my everyday life and make the recipes when I have time. The recipes are great and the book is a great read too! I've turned on family & friends to David's books and they are happy for the great find!

This book gives new meaning to the concept of food as medicine. From arthritis to eczema, 101 Optimal Life Foods draws on the latest science to show you how the foods you eat can help cure what ails you. It thoroughly walks readers through each disease, explaining its causes and the best foods as remedies as well as identifying those that exacerbate it. The book also provides super-helpful meal plans to show readers how to work these foods into their daily diets as well as nourishing recipes.

This cook book is GREAT! It's not only a cookbook, it's a "lifestyle" book. It has many plans for all different life styles or certain problems you may have. My husband and I have made several of the recipes, and they are not only healthy, but they are also very tastey! A++++ from me!

We ARE what we eat. David Grotto uses current research, includes recipes and plans to help with common ailments. A good companion to Drs. Oz and Roisen's YOU book.
