From the Author

Preface (Excerpted from book)

Warning! I want to give you a heads-up first before you read any further. This book may actually give out too much information. Yes, that's right: TMI. Conventional wisdom and rule of thumb suggest sticking to only a few topics. Guess what? This is not your conventional book. I am not going to follow the herd on this one.

Why not? Because we all live multidimensional lives; as human beings we have a complex makeup in a very complex world. We can't afford to be masters of one domain yet be completely deficient or devoid in all the others. No one is perfect, including yours truly. We all have our unique strengths and weaknesses. I have had my share of life's blunders, tragedies, failures, or whatever you want to call them. Yes, I have fallen on the mat quite a few times. Despite being battered and bruised in the figurative sense, I have continued to pick myself up.

My journey of ups and downs has given me a greater appreciation of life's many twists and turns. I have had to learn about some of my own imperfections and insecurities. How does one deal with and reconcile them? The fact is they simply aren't limited to one particular category. In terms of spirituality and religion, I have had times when I had internal conflicts and doubt to a point of existential confusion. In terms of health, I have had a few scares along the way. My relationships have come with their challenges as well as their rewards. And, of course, I have not been immune to the recent economic storm.

How do you navigate and survive this wilderness called life? There is so much information out there, it's a bit overwhelming to try to gain perspective and understanding. It's even more frustrating when you try focusing on one problem but still need help with several other issues. Who can you go to for help? What should you read? When I was in that situation, I didn't want to walk out of a bookstore or library with ten books on various self-improvement subjects. I wanted to find one book that would give me a snapshot of life. I never found it--until now. It's right here in your hands. You are holding it.

This book was born from my own search for clarity and meaning. My goal is for you to get the absolute maximum of information possible from it. In other words I want you to have a very high return on investment (ROI). Toward that end I've included everything but the kitchen sink in this book. I want every page you turn to be of great value.

There are a lot of areas to master. The point is not to be a superstar in everything. If you are simply well informed, you will be able to reach levels of mastery in several areas. Why not? We should all strive to find balance in life and excel in as many areas as we possibly can. I have complete confidence you can do this. We all have potential; by tapping into it, our limits are boundless.

In reading this book, you have taken the first step toward better living. However don't expect to make wholesale changes overnight. It's a process. Rome wasn't built in one day. This book is meant to kick-start your journey, to give you a few pointers to build on. You will likely have to go back and reread and review things on occasion. Once you start noticing positive results, I am sure you will want to keep going. Even if you're not ready for immediate change, simply being aware of the possibilities will help you set future goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Better Decisions for a Balanced Life March 15, 2014
One of the problems with our educational system is that students are taught a lot information but they are not taught how to apply that information in the proper context of life. Therefore we have a large percentage of adults that do not know how to make decisions which will help them live a balanced life.

Dr. Sanjay Jain, author of Optimal Living 360, has written a comprehensive book that teaches the techniques for making better decisions and then goes on to illustrate how to apply those techniques in the most important areas of our lives.

Dr. Jain writes from a unique perspective. First he is a medical doctor. After a few years of medical practice, he realized that his business skills were lacking, so he went back to school to acquire an MBA.

If we hope to achieve a state of optimal living, we must know how to take care of our health. In addition, since we live in a materialistic world, we must know how to manage our finances. Dr. Jain covers both these areas in detail.

He uses the acronym ASPIRES to represent the topics he covers in the book. ASPIRES stands for Assets, Safety, Physical, Intellectual, Relationships, Economic and Spiritual. He uses another acronym CAPS to teach how to protect our assets. CAPS stands for Core Assets Protection Strategies.

Dr. Jain starts by teaching proper methods for making sound decisions. The quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our choices - decisions. If we are not skilled in making good decisions, we will not have the quality of life we desire.

Then he walks the reader through each of the assets, starting with Safety and going through Spiritual. He gives very good, sound, easy to implement advice on how to protect our core assets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wealth of information on improving your life April 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a fantastic book that covers a lot of different areas to work on in order to achieve a balanced life. I was surprised to see it covered health issues as well as financial and intellectual ones, though after reading it I realize how intertwined our health and physical condition is with everything else in our lives.

The book teaches how to make the best decisions instead of the easiest ones, in every aspect of our day to day existence. Only by making good decisions will we have the quality of life we really want. I also appreciated the discussion on stress and how to deal with it in a positive manner. My favorite part, as always, was the personal stories. They were so sincere and helped me connect to the author and his important message of achieving balance in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Read on How to Live Optimally April 24, 2014
I've bought self-help books in the past on specific areas - how to improve health or my finances - but it's been slim pickings finding a book that ties everything together. I was impressed at how well this book does that. This book encourages you take a step back and look at life from a big picture perspective. The author succinctly covers each important life area (health, finance, etc.) and outlines how to maximize your 'ROI' by providing his own personal experiences and offering tips and decision making frameworks. Overall, I'm smarter after reading this book than I would be if I didn't, which is basically how I evaluate self-help books. To summarize:
- Comprehensive, succinct, and easy-to-read (Took me less than a week to read)
- Provides good tips and can be used a reference guide
- Credible author (Practicing doctor with an MBA to go along with personal experiences to support advice)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Handbook for Meeting Life's Problems February 28, 2014
Based on insights gained from his own experience, Dr. Jain offers guidelines on how to make sound decisions that honor one's core values in just about every area of life. Included is a general overview of how to use one's physical, mental and emotional assets so they contribute to the reader's overall health and happiness. The sections on diet and exercise will prove helpful for many readers. The strongest part, which is not surprising, has to do with maintaining physical health. The reader may find his comments regarding different ways to invest, and also his description of various charities, of special interest. I particularly liked his analysis of stress and how to meet it constructively.

More About the Author

Doctor Sanjay Jain, M.D. is an accomplished medical doctor, keynote speaker, author, and innovator. Sanjay represents a new wave of thought leadership and expertise developed not only from his medical and financial education, but also his life experiences.

Sanjay shares from his own place of deep personal experiences: lost and confused in a series of deeply frustrating circumstances affecting his own life, Dr. Jain applied the very principles he teaches that have dramatically transformed his own life. His motivation is being the underdog. When at several times throughout his life, people never gave him the chance, Dr Jain continued to believe in himself despite the odds. He has had his share of failures in life. However it goes without saying that success can only be achieved by having gone through the process of failures. As a doctor, he was able to make a difference on a one to one basis. However that limited his capacity to reach out and help more people. His goal is to expand beyond those confines and share his message to as many people who need it.

Sanjay Jain is a US trained, board certified physician with over 15 years of clinical experience. He holds certifications in Diagnostic Radiology, Integrative Medicine, and Healthcare Quality and Management. He is a graduate from the accelerated BS/MD program at The Northeast Ohio Medical University. He has diversified experience in the private practice, academic, and HMO settings.

He was a former assistant professor at The Ohio State University where he also obtained his MBA at the Fisher School of Business. The combination of which has given him a unique voice and understanding of the many issues we face today in a real and practical sense.

He has served on numerous committees at every level of his professional career. He is a member of the American Roentgen Ray Society, American College of Sports Medicine, and American College of Forensic Medicine, American Association of Integrative Medicine, and American Institute for Healthcare Quality.

Dr. Jain currently resides in Potomac, Maryland where he balances his time with his work and his family of two sons and wife.
