5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide to Improving Your Health
Dr. Levy takes a fresh and very logical approach to an issue of great importance to everyone. I've read many diet and health books, and none of them cover such a wide variety of topics. Dr. Levy doesn't get too technical and cites enough scientific literature to support his findings.

This book is comprehensive yet very easy to read. Dr. Levy covers numerous topics...

The author attempts to give his conclusions the air of scientific validity, but often the very nature of his claims go against the standards of evidence based medicine. He writes at length about the dangers of confusing correlation and causation in statistical surveys (which exist), but seems to forget his own advice when it comes to presenting anecdotal evidence and his...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide to Improving Your Health, October 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)

Dr. Levy covers numerous topics including the need for proper food combinations, the risk of low cholesterol, the dangers of seafood, the negatives of milk, recommendations for proper supplementation, and the need to avoid other toxins such as the mercury in dental fillings. Dr. Levy includes a large number of practical and useful suggestions on how to achieve the goal of optimal nutrition. Definitely recommended reading for anyone interested in improving his or her health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful reading, October 4, 2001
By
This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)
Dr. Levy's command of his subject matter is unmatched. His findings, while sometimes startling, underscore the importance of being informed and doing your homework to back up findings.

Dr. Levy's legal training also provides unique insight and perspective as to the challenges facing the medical, dental and nutritional worlds - and the institutional impediments to progress for those of us not versed in medical wisdom.

Thanks for another great book, Doctor, and here's to your good health and continued research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Common Sense to Weight Watchers, October 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)
After reading this book, I achieved a weight loss not associated with stimulants of any sort. I learned how to eat sensibly and what to watch out for when combining various foods at a meal. It helped me plan the constituents that complimented each other. After I got that down, the weight started to come off.

5.0 out of 5 stars A phenomenal book, October 31, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)
Reading this book opened my eyes to many indisputable facts about one's diet and health of which I hadn't been aware, and prompted me to make many changes to my life, all of which have been to my benefit.

I can't recommend it highly enough, and will be handing copies of it out to friends for Christmas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading, December 28, 2010
This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)
I read things in this book that I hadn't read in many other books on diet.

The information on supplements is very minimal, but the information on diet and food combining is useful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pseudo-science, March 4, 2008

This review is from: Optimal Nutrition for Optimal Health (Paperback)
The author attempts to give his conclusions the air of scientific validity, but often the very nature of his claims go against the standards of evidence based medicine. He writes at length about the dangers of confusing correlation and causation in statistical surveys (which exist), but seems to forget his own advice when it comes to presenting anecdotal evidence and his analysis of patients with a "Total Dental Revision". I can imagine the double blind study now -- half the patients get their fillings removed, and the other just get excruciating pain for half a day! Similarly, he writes about how Big Pharma and Big Food care about their bottom line more than your health and will misuse science to peddle their products (which is true) while doing the same thing blatantly propagandizing his buddy Hal Huggins' dental services.

Now, some of the advice on dieting is informative and will work -- but you shouldn't have to pay the cover price to understand that 100 grams of high fructose corn syrup will not do you any good and replacing butter with hydrogenated vegetable oil is an idiotic idea. Furthermore, considering that the sound advice scattered among many dubious claims, I would not recommend this book.
