Overlooked Gem!!!!, March 29, 2007
This review is from: Optimizing Light Microscopy for Biological & Clinical Labs (Paperback)
I have read many books on introductory microscopy and this one beats them all, hands down!!! It is methodical, full of practical exercises for students at any level and clearly written.
It's good enough to overlook a few minor flaws like the lack of an index in my edition. Also, the section on polarized light microscopy is not quite as clear as it could be and the DIC section could use a little fleshing out. It would be nice to see an updated treatment of digital microscopy, explained in Ms. Foster's simple, yet authoritative style.
There are other more complete or more advanced treatments out there, but none that has the combination of clarity and comprehensiveness of this book. I recommend this to anyone from layperson to researcher who wants to learn the foundations of microscopy painlessly and correctly.
