The Optimum brand has a decent price, is all natural, and the taste is good when measured correctly. Too much is too sweet and too little is too bland if you're adding simply to water. It mixes very smoothly in straight water/milk or as a shake additive and it provides my muscles with the fuel they need post workouts. Their chocolate flavor is pretty good as well if you're not pleased with the vanilla. I usually take to shakes a day, one about an hour before working out - I also add frozen berries and plain yogurt for energy with water and 4 grams of L-Arginine powder for muscle gains, growth etc -L Arginine (1 Kg) (2.2 Lbs) Bulk Powder. Out of all the amino acids, L-Arginine is my favorite. It actually pumps more blood into the muscles during workouts so muscle pumps are bigger and more importantly work outs are more intense. Glutamine is also an essential one to building muscle and this is another reason I like Optimum, they include the glutamine in the protein. When taking into account taste, quality, and price optimum gold protein is some of the best out there.

This product seems ok so far. I'm by no means an expert on health supplements, but I took the advice of someone who seems to know a lot about bodybuilding who suggested this product. If you're interested in this product, and health and fitness generally, check this guy out, scooby1961 is his YouTube account name. He has a website and many videos full of helpful nutrition and exercise information. No, I'm not in any way related nor do I know him personally, I'm just a member of his audience. He recommended this whey protein as it is 100% natural, something he points out is preferrable. I enjoy the taste and flavor, I went with vanilla because I don't just drink this with milk or water, I put it with other ingredients in the blender and make shakes or smoothies, whatever you might call them. I'll do 1 cup fat free milk, 1/2 cup fat free plain yogurt, two teaspoons artificial sweetner, about 1 cup ice, 140 grams (recommended serving size) of frozen fruit that I defrost in the microwave about 1 minute to blend well, and finally 1 scoop of this protein powder. This makes 4-5 cups and between 355 and 385 calories, no fat. I have been using this as my first meal of the day for about 5 weeks now, so far so good. I realize this is probably more info than anyone reading this might have been after, but I thought I'd include for the heck of it, maybe it's helpful for someone out there. Take care.

Both my wife and I had decided fairly recently to start using protein powder after our workouts. We started with some unnamed protein powder, but my wife started getting migraine headaches. After looking at the ingredients, we decided it was possible that they were due to the artificial sweeteners. I looked around online, and had a heck of a time trying to find a whey protein which did not use artificial sweeteners. Which is where this protein came in.

We have now tried all 3 flavors of Natural, the Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. My wife's headaches have gone away, which is always a good thing.

My wife and I both disliked the Vanilla. There was something about the flavor we didn't like. There are lots of good descriptive words for sight (bright, dim, yellow, flashing, etc), but nothing much for taste. Too bad. Anyway, we didn't like it.

I am a fan of the Strawberry. I sometimes drink it with water (it's just fine), but with soy milk (I'm a recent soy milk convert) it tastes very close to strawberry milk. I don't mind gulping protein powder just to get it over with, but the strawberry with soy milk was basically at the point that I would enjoy the drink. Excellent!

My wife is a fan of the chocolate. She said it's very similar to normal chocolate powder, which is a good thing, since I've had chocolate protein powders in the past which did not taste like normal chocolate :)

Texture wise, they mix pretty good. We have screw top bottles we use to mix the protein, we pour in the liquid, give it a few seconds of shaking, and then can drink. Usually I wait for the foamy liquid to settle, I don't like drinking foam.... On a side note, if the bottle is wet when you put in the protein and the protein settles on the wet bottom, it can clump and need some pretty vigorous shaking. But normally there's no problem.

That's about it, not much else to say about protein powder. I'd strongly suggest the chocolate or strawberry, and stick with the natural stuff rather than the artificial sweeteners. Read more ›

I bought this to add to my workout routine. I'm trying to build muscle now and I drink this after my weight lifting workouts. I looked at the ingredients and price on many products and decided on this brand--I got the natural chocolate and vanilla ice cream flavors. Both of them taste great. They seem to have the best ingredients if your looking for minimal artificial ingredients. This does not bother my irritable bowel syndrome--and believe me---most products cause lots of gas and bloating. This does not. I highly recommend this product. One point--I found out the Vitamin Shoppe sells this for about $2 cheaper and you can just walk right in and buy it and not wait for shipping.

After spending hours comparing nutritional information labels on a dozen diffrent brands of powders, I decided on this one for obvious reasons. It replaces alot of ingredients with natural ones, and costs only about 46 cents per serving, yet has an impressive 24 grams of protein per serving. That's really the bottom line why you should choose this product.

I got the chocolate. Threw it in a glass of water, and was VERY surprised that after stirring for about 30 seconds with just a spoon, it had almost completely disolved. You dont even need a shaker for this. As far as the taste well, theres no sweetener, and almost no sugar or fat. So of course it doesnt taste like a freakin milkshake. It's really good for you. Im sure in milk (which adds fat and sugar) it will taste great but i wont be doing that personally.

I wrote this review half a year ago, and the price has gone way up since then. It is still a great product, but not the huge value it was back when i got it $10 cheaper.
