Book Description

May 5, 2011
Option to Profit shares the author's approach of getting an investment stock portfolio to work above and beyond its expected historical performance. After many years of working with a wonderful stockbroker, the Option to Profit book chronicles the author's mindset evolution following his broker's untimely death. Starting with a re-evaluation of the need for a full service brokerage, the author struck out on his own by putting into action the observations that he had made over the years of passively watching his portfolio of stocks. The essence of the strategies that is distilled into the book is that taking advantage of the hidden value in stocks can help the individual investor to start a path leading toward a much stronger financial future. Since every 1% annual beat of the index averages will deliver the investor to a secure retirement so much more quickly, the ability to optimize portfolio performance is critical. Option to Profit lays out a tested and conservative strategy to maximize the income stream from a portfolio of stocks. Whether it is an existing portfolio or one newly assembled to take advantage of the strategies outlined, an intuitive approach to management can be fun and profitable for the individual investor. Option to Profit offers a framework allowing those using full service brokerage houses to free themselves of the trading limitations and to do so in a highly cost effective manner. The book is written in a manner that both seasoned investors and those new to the stock market can easily understand the concepts and implement the strategies. Additionally, a large sampling of stocks with solid fundamentals and predictably cyclic trading patterns is provided to help both the experienced and novice investor build their stable of stocks choices. Although a serious topic handled in a serious and analytical manner, Option to Profit utilizes a humorous and philosophical approach drawing upon universal traits in human nature to magnify the points that it makes. A broad range of topics, from Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles to Bollinger Bands are weaved together to form a unified philosophy with widespread application. With stock coverage from Altria to Zoltek and social commentary from Glenn Beck to Womanizing, there is something for everyone, and somehow, it all comes together. The book is complemented with access to online resources, analytical spreadsheets and an investment blog and user forum. Serious material, easy reading and many case studies are used to illustrate strategies and their application.

About the Author

George Acs has always been interested in getting rich and retiring by the age of 30. That's not exactly the way that its worked out, however. The key to achieving the goals of his youth have only recently become available to the individual investor. The internet and discount brokerage houses have changed the landscape, but the advantages available to the individual investor are still under-utilized and not fully understood by the average investor. SInce the death of his trusted stock broker, George has been very actively managing stock accounts using the same techniques that hedge funds use to protect their positions. Although comfortable with technical analyses, integral calculus and the tools necessary to dissect charts, George minimizes reliance on these tools, using them only as a fleeting confirmation of over-riding strategies. Instead, he has devised a series of steps that constitute a highly defined strategy that most anyone can follow. No longer 30 years old, George is at least retired from his career in Pediatric Dentistry, approximately 10 years ahead of schedule, after spending the previous 10 years working just 2 days each week. He wants you to join him in making your stock portfolio improve the quality of your life. Whatever stage you are in, you can make your stocks improve that quality. George also maintains a blog that is dedicated to the memory of his father, who was a Holocaust survivor with a unique sense of humor. He also maintains a very active Twitter account as @TheAcsMan and can be followed at his Facebook page http://www.Facebook/TheAcsMan TheAcsMan blog is at www.TheAcsMan.com and covers financial and social topics in a humorous fashion. Great for new traders June 2, 2011

I have never played around in the market before and wasn't looking to dive in blind. I started following @theacsman on twitter and found him to be insightful and hilarious. The book did not disappoint I read it in 3 days and feel like I finally have a strategy going into the market. I think this book would be beneficial to anybody looking to make some money who also has a good sense of humor. Highly recommended.

Unusual book. Get it. October 6, 2011

Format:Paperback
This is really a great book and is very breezy reading.

I actually read it twice. The first time for the story telling and the second time for the actual trading strategy. You don't see too many books that try to combine humor with trying to teach a serious stock trading technique.

After reading it the second time, it became clear that the stories, jokes and cartoons all re-inforced the core concepts embodied in the trading strategies. I appreciated the author's decision to not use lots of jargon or technical terms to demonstrate the points. For much of the book a conversational tone is used. You almost feel like you are being spoken to.

There is a very serious side, though. The book is very well documented with real trades. Based on the dates, it appears that during a short 2 month period of time there were more than enough examples of advantageous trades. To his credit, the author also discusses when things don't work out and what steps to take and why. That's actually an important point. Every step in the strategy, and there are at least 20, is followed with an explamnation of why it's an important step.

I don't have that much trading experience, but after reading the book, I started reading the blog and began to see a real time implementation of the trading technique. The web site also posts trades and the portfolio holdings. Since then, I've taken the advice of not going in all at once and have gotten the experience I've needed without risking too much at one time.

By the way, I bought the book for myself on the Kindle and I got my brother the paperback version.

I really liked the paperback better. Because of all of the Tables and charts it really helps to flip back and forth. I ended up getting a second paperback for myself.

To start, I am a little biased, because I know of the author and professional reputation, but I wasn't expecting this.

This book deals with a serious topic, but it does it in a pretty funny way. It actually uses cartoons to illustrate each chapter's points.

Despite the jokes, cartoons and stories, the book is well documented and lays out a very precise set of strategies to manage stock portfolios. It's written in an easy to read way and didn't overwhelm me with jargon or lots of math.

I'm just starting out with investing. I don't have a large portfolio, but now I'm beginning to track stocks and apply those strategies to see what it would do for my own situation. The techniques that are used are the kind of hedging that sophisticated traders use, but they're demystified by the book for everyday people.

From reading the book I have gotten the confidence that I can actually do the necessary trading on my own and that I don't have to be worried about things getting overly complicated.
