These needles are beautiful, flexible cords that don't kink, smooth joins, yarn glides, until....... On two ocassions, the yarn suddenly started to "stick", and fearing that they were coming unscrewed from the cord, this was checked. Cords were snug and tight, as they should be. The problem was that the needle had come loose from the metal casing, and the needle fell free, along with some stitches. Called Knit Picks, they apologized, said they would send out a new size 4 needle. Took up another project, using the size 6 needles. After a bit of knitting, the EXACT same thing happened with one of the needles. Called Knit Picks again. Many apologies, said that maybe the changing weather made it come loose. They will send out another needle. To date, have not received either needle, and have reverted to using fixed cable bamboo needles! LOVE the look and feel of the needles, but they do have a glue problem!

I purchased a set of the Caspian needles off knit picks website. Less than 2 months later and 5 of my 9 needles were defective. The wooden tip separated from it's metal base (came unglued). It was actually the 5 largest sizes, the smaller needles seem fine.

Good thing: After a 2 minute phone call, replacement needles for the defectives were ordered. (May be a potential 60 day window for this?)
Bad thing: Who knows if those will be defective too.
Bonus good thing: Super glue didn't work, but Gorilla Glue seems to have repaired at least one of my needles and I plan on trying the rest to salvage them. Do be careful not to use too much gorilla glue, as it expands. Used 3 rubber bands to "clamp" it together for a few hours. So far so good. My first time using Gorilla Glue!

So be prepared with any wooden sets for it to come unglued, but do know that you can fix them if you do it carefully, and that knitpicks will send replacements.

I loved these at first, I have them in rainbow and the caspian. But they keep breaking. Knitpicks replaced my Caspian ones that previously broke, but now another pair of the rainbow have broken. Even when they replace them it's pretty frustrating to have this happen while working on a project. And I am not 'rough' with my needles, in fact I am quite careful. Even more so since previously experiencing breakage.

I have been an avid knitting hater for years. I hated knitting. I could not knit and refused.

About four or five years ago or so, I started spinning yarn and my crochet ideas just didn't look good to me. I had to learn to knit.

I had tried to knit over and over and hated it- I dropped stitches, I lost them, yarn stuck to the needles, or it would slip right out. The tips were too blunt for bamboo and the needles too slick with plastic and metal. I hated circular needles due to too much memory, and others bent and were ruined.

I was about to give up after a few years of trying when i saw Knitpicks Harmony needles in a catalog. I was afraid to try them due to price, but I had so many people recommend them to me, I asked for them for Christmas.

I have knitted so much now, it is like I am a new person. You should SEE all of the things I have knitted in just a few short years. Currently I am on a hat binge and made 8 hats in two weeks.

NEEDLE SET INFO

I have four sets of Knitpicks needles now. I have the double pointed Harmony. I have the Harmony Rainbow set here, I have the metal nickel set (yes, I said metal) and I have the Caspian which is the aqua wood needle set.

The older version of the needles which I got back when they were much more expensive were made in India. I love that set, but I must say that the coating was uneven and in places not as nice as I would have liked. The dye was inconsistent as well.

I then got some replacement needles and the newer version made in China has the size engraved on the metal part. The quality is much nicer. Heavier coating and more even intense dye too.

PROS
1.The cords are very flexible and do not stay curled up.
2.

I ordered these from Knit Picks about two days before Amazon started carrying them!! (I know because I always check Amazon first) I absolutely LOVE this set. They feel marvelous and are very well made. Nice sharp tips, smooth surface and warm wood feel. They are also beautiful. I've been knitting with them for three straight days since I got them. I'm am SO happy that Amazon is now carrying this line so I can get two day delivery!! Now if we could just order the yarn here because Knit Picks yarn is also awesome-tastic...
Love, love, love this product.

I have several sets of interchangeable knitting needles without problem. But when I recently bought a set of Knit Picks rainbow wood circular needles, I found that the first time I used them the wooden tips spontaneously detach from the cable, not just at the point where they screw in but also at the juncture where the wood tip is permanently (supposedly) connected to its metal base, which in turn screws into the cable. So you may be working on a project with 130 stitches on your needles and 30 rows into your sweater, mid row, when suddenly the needles fall apart and you lose all your stitches. There is no way to reattach the wooden point of the needle to its base. I tried to reconnect it, but it keeps detaching. Now my effort is ruined and I am out $70 (the least of the annoyance but considerable), because Knit Picks will not honor its "guarantee." Further, I cannot simply switch to another set of needles in this size and continue with the project because, as experienced knitters know, all needles of the same size designation are not precisely the same. Don't be seduced by the pretty wood pattern. If the needles don't function in the most basic sense, they are garbage.
