5.0 out of 5 stars The New Bible For Option Trading
The book lives up to its name. It gives you an easy-to-read breakdown of 30 different option trading strategies, as well as more covering the key factors involved with trading. A gold mine for beginners; a great reference for veterans. Another worth having in your personal library.

3.0 out of 5 stars Effective, but disappointed
Brian Overby is an extremely helpful teacher of the science of options. The videos that he does with the Chicago exchange make this very clear. In addition, his material at TradeKing addresses almost any question you could raise and in a clear and cogent manner.

In this book, you will see laid out in the simplest possible manner all of the major option...

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Options very Understandable, September 11, 2007
This review is from: The Options Playbook (Spiral-bound)
This book is outstanding! I have taken options classes and read a few books on the subject, if I had this book in the first place, I would have saved my self lots of time and some money. It is VERY user friendly, and a little entertaining. Buy a copy for yourself, and one to lend out!

Brian Overby is an extremely helpful teacher of the science of options. The videos that he does with the Chicago exchange make this very clear. In addition, his material at TradeKing addresses almost any question you could raise and in a clear and cogent manner.

In this book, you will see laid out in the simplest possible manner all of the major option strategies. It is a very effective introduction to a very complex topic, which is often made more complex by the proliferation of words and superfluous information given in many other books.

I was disappointed for 3 reasons.
1. There was a coupon with the book which would have put money in a TradeKing account for me but I couldn't use it because I already had one. So don't open your account first if you are thinking of it.
2. Although it's great to be simple, it would have been nice to have a little bit more text in this book. Perhaps a FAQ or some very basic chapters on things like money management, etc.
3. For what I got, I felt it was too much. This book should sell for $15. At that price it's really a gem. At $35, it's a bit of an overpriced reference.

This review is from: The Options Playbook (Spiral-bound)
The Options Playbook is "how-to" guide on investing... This book blows everything else out there, out of the water... really! I have never seen anything as simple to understand in the complex world of investing...

This is a perfect gift for anyone that loves investing. Very easy to read. I absolutely love it!

I am sending a copy to 20 people I know for xmas. Seems like the perfect gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Book, April 17, 2008
This review is from: The Options Playbook (Spiral-bound)
This book is excellent. It easily explains how each option strategy works and when to use it. This is the perfect book to get started with learning about options, and you will keep using it because the strategies go to very advanced. He does talk a little much about using TradeKing which is an online broker service. But once you figure out how to get the information elsewhere, you'll be trading options and understanding your trades in no time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Set-up!, August 7, 2009
This review is from: The Options Playbook (Spiral-bound)
First off, you can gain access to this book online by opening an account with the broker that sponsors the book. No need to pay unless you want a hard copy!

The book does try to explain the basics for beginners, but the explanations are pretty simplified, especially when it comes to implied volatility and time decay. I was not familiar with those concepts, and the explanations somewhat helped. The book was not written to go into extreme details.

The book is set up so you can easily find the play that you are looking to run. The author recommends about 4 different plays for newbies. The rest are for veterans or higher. The book also offers suggestions on limiting risk, placing stops and rolling options.

I do feel more confident after having read this book, but I still feel I need to become better at technical analysis before trading options. It seems that the covered call is the easiest option to begin with!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect companion to Overby's videos, November 26, 2008

This book enabled me to find Brian Overby's videos, created for the CBOE and I think still available on the CBOE website [...] and Youtube. While I enjoyed the book and learned from it, after watching the author's video classes I realized that the book is mostly a quick reference. For example, Mr Overby does a *one hour* video on bull call spreads--and he needs every minute of it. His book, on the other hand, has just one page of text on the same subject. So, find and watch the videos first, then keep the book as a reference on the properties of each strategy. One more thing: the tone of this book seems just right. None of the "let's all get rich now!" nonsense found in some investing books and options seminars, but also none of the ominous, exaggerated warnings contained in others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Options made eas(ier), October 31, 2008
This review is from: The Options Playbook (Spiral-bound)
Before reading this book, I knew nothing about options. I had been trading stocks online for 5 years. The book is easy to read and understand. Options are still complex to me and I often refer back to this book. Brian Overby does a good job breaking down options trading into understandable parts.
