In trying to find a good projector for ~$400 for our work area, we did a lot of research. In the end, we couldn't decide between this and the ViewSonic PJD5533W ($440 at writing - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00511ITEM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00511ITEM&linkCode=as2&tag=todmedblo-20&linkId=6CFHOT62HY2C5LOJ , so we purchased both.

While both were pleasantly usable for the price (even though we'd been spoiled by a much more expensive home theater projector), we found the Optoma to be noticeably sharper when focused and compared side-by-side to this ViewSonic. Brightness and colors were comparable, so we went with the sharper Optoma.

The Optoma also came with a free carrying case, the ViewSonic did not.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: this review is for the DW326e - which is one of the three versions of this product sold on this page (the "WXGA" version, to be specific). There are minor differences in the other versions (it was brought to my attention that the XGA version does not include a carrying case), so, while I can't speak to the exact details of all three versions, the general consensus that Optoma's DW326 line is good for the price still holds!

I hope you found this helpful!

You might also want to consider getting a projector screen to maximize the image quality and brightness - I've had a wonderful experience with this FAVI 100 inch screen - plus, it's automated with a remote for maximum WOW factor! http://amzn.to/22Xk06W

As far as bulb life goes, Amazon claims it'll last up to 6000 hours. We're nowhere near that level of usage yet (a couple hundred hours), but, the bulb hasn't died yet! For reference, this is the recommended bulb replacement: http://amzn.to/22Xk0Ug

Okay I just bought this thing last week (Dx326 XGA), I have it set up to about 180 inches right now and it runs more clear and better pix than my 50 inch led sony smart tv.. i have extremely well lit rooms from sunlight and that doesn't bother this projector in the least (But I bought 1inch thick insulation boards and had pictures printed onto them so I can have 100% dark room).
I didn't read the instructions at all and figured out everything pretty easily.. I read the reviews on here and people said it was sooo loud and blah blah blah.. well they're morons. If you have the volume up at all on the projector or any sort of a surround sound.. then you won't hear the fan at all (Me personally, i have a 7.1 sony surround system so all I hear is what ever i'm watching)
I have nothing bad yet to say about this thing.. Took it outside last night and projected it on the side of my house at max size and it was clear enough to see most everything except dark scenes, but i adjusted the contrast and brightness and that was fixed to an extent..
So Bottom line.. If you are looking for a inexpensive projector that can do very high quality movies or games like i was.. Then this is the one. I almost bought a bunch of projectors around $199-250 but then decided to spend the extra hundred bucks and it is well worth it. Save your self money on the projector screen and buy the felt cloth and build it your self, saved me about 200 dollars and only took 15 minutes to build with my girlfriend helping me (She sucks at anything carpentry related lol)

I will be posting a video on youtube around the second week of august 2014 of the picture quality at around 180 inches. Just look for optoma dx326 demo.

If you have any questions just ask on here, i'll be checking about once a week. Thanks for your time, wish you the best.

This projector is definitely worth the price. trust me. I work with projectors and have seen the really crappy ones, but this is definitely worth the price. Comes with everything you need, remote and batteries, vga cable etc. It handles 3d amazingly.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

This is an excellent projector (XGA) for the price. So far it has been great. I ordered it when it was offered as a lightning deal and received it today. Set up was good, we made a projector box and ran a 25ft long HDMI cable (mediabridge bought on amazon too- only $13.99!) to the DVD player. The projector does have speakers, but we just connected our soundbar to the DVD player for better "theater" sound. Love that the projector comes with remote that's very sensitive- you don't need to point directly at it for it to work. I have been watching shows on 4:3 though it is 16:9 capable. It must be connected to a device to have full access to the menu board FYI.

This was put into a small room for a theater. I bought it for the lumens, the hdmi, and the 3d. As a projector it works beautifully. No issues or complaints at all. Regarding the hdmi... It is simply that. The projector takes an hdmi input and shows the video very well. The on board audio is simple and not at all adequate for a theater. I ran my hdmi video cable from the DVD player into a stereo with an hdmi port. Worked great. However, the greatest thing I found is the following. I bought an hdmi box that took three hdmi inputs and outputted one hdmi signal with the audio sent through the "laser" audio output on the hdmi box I bought. The hdmi video goes to the projector and the audio to the receiver. I connected an xbox 360, a blue ray DVD player, and a desktop to the three input hdmi box. As I played each one, and selected the item through the hdmi box, the video selected was sent to the projector and the surround audio to the receiver. Worked flawless!! So trying 3d, I downloaded some side by side videos SBS, played them through the computer. Turned on the three D option on the projector, synced the glasses, and Bam! The movie was beautiful!!! Great unit and pretty up to date with playing regular video and in 3d.
