I took a bit of a gamble and picked this up despite the lack of reviews on the internet. Before pulling the trigger I checked out reviews for the earlier model (Optoma GT750) and they were all very strong. So I went for it.

A little background: This is my first projector. I picked it up to watch movies and play video games. Both are fairly straight forward use cases. I fall right in the middle between audiophile and n00b. I don't want a crap device or picture but I'm not interested in dropping a lot of money for incrementally small improvements. This unit fit the requirements for performance and cost. I was tempted to go for a 1080 projector but the jump in cost was just too much to justify. I was concerned that the resolution would be pixelated but so far its crystal clear.

I've put in about 12-15 hours with the projector and wanted to provide a quick review. I had originally overlooked this model because it's marketed as a game projector. I'm glad I took a closer look. The specs are great for the price range and so far this projector has been excellent. Great picture quality, bright enough to operate with some ambient sun light and great contrast ratio.

I blew my kids' minds when I put on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Then, had them running from the room when I tested Pacific Rim.

Not mentioned explicitly in the description is that this is a short throw projector. I have it set up 4-ish feet from the wall to watch movies. The projected image is clear and non-pixelated at about 100 inches diagonal. I reduced the screen size a bit when testing the unit with BioShock Infinite. The image was just too big given my seating distance of ~12 feet. At about 80inches the screen was the perfect size. I was giddy.

As a loyal Amazon customer it pains me to say I decided to go with a specialized projector dealer who offers free technical and set up support and also happened to be $13 cheaper.

My use is movies and Hallowindow in October. I projected on my garage and it was the talk of the neighbourhood.

I have had the projector for ~2 months and am nothing but jaw droppingly impressed. At 3'9" from lens to screen it projects a 100 inch image. One modern feature that I missed was a horizontal key feature. This would allow you to mount the projector and through the settings adjust left and right projection. It does have a vertical key however. This is a minor thing and the projector itself offers stunning HD with vivid colors and deep black thanks to the high contrast ratio. At 13 feet from the screen I do not notice any pixelation. At the same time I don't consider myself a video/audio pro and thus my untrained eye might just not pick up on it.

For this price you can not get a better short throw projector. I was stronlgy debating between the BENQ W770ST, which is similar, but older and not as good a lumens and contrast ratio. Next project is to test the 3D functionality and my primary concern with this is lag. I will try to get on here later to advise what glasses I used and how well it performed.

Update 23-jan-2014

As I have stated in answering a question regarding this product, I initially had some issues with my 3D. After some basic troubleshooting I found out that my receiver was not "handshaking" properly with the projector causing grey flashes and when accompanied with the projector volume turned up it gives an audible popping noise with the grey flashes.

The receiver (pioneer) was rated for 1.

Great projector. We used this in a banquet hall for an audience of 2000+ with great success. It was one of two used in the hall, one on each side of the stage. We will be purchasing one more to replace the house left projector. We feed it HDMI from a HD-SDI source through a converter.

First projector i have ever bought and so far this thing is impressive. I use it to project on a 10ft x 16ft (3.05m x 4.88m) screen. During the daytime (normal ambient light from windows), the image is too faded to watch a movie as it was meant to be watched, but at night the image is really good (not movie theater good but i would say much better than i expected for such a large screen).

The short throw lens also works well without any distortion. For my image, i only had to pull it back about 2.6m away from screen, so its very good for small areas. The speakers however are on the whimpy side.

I give it 4 stars because its not bright enough for daytime use without lighting control, but it really deserves 5 stars because for the price it really is good value for money and i'm using it on a screen which is huge and was probably not designed for; and yet it still does a pretty good job.

If i had to choose between a lcd, plasma, led or projector for the same amount of money. I'll definitely go for the projector if i had a big enough wall to project the image on.

I purchased the projector for our church. We needed a ultra short throw that would give us a huge screen in a very tight space. Also we need to use our existing wireless transmitter/receiver system which the GT760 accommodated. So, we are extremely happy and on top of it all it was very affordable for everything that it offers. We would recommend it to anyone for tight spaces wanting a very large presentation.
