I got this to replace an aging Dell S300W short-throw projector. I'm pretty sure based on the design and specs that Optoma builds Dell-branded projectors. In any case- this was less-expensive, and works very well. We use it in portable classroom environments where space is often at a premium and there often isn't room for a longer-throw projector without eliminating student seating or risking having the projector damaged by someone tripping over a cord or bumping into it. We can place this a few feet from the screen, and get an outstanding bright image.

The only problem with this, and other short-throw projectors, is you need a high-quality screen. Any ripples will distort the image considerably, which isn't as much of a problem with longer-throw projectors because of the angle they project at. A "fast-fold" or similar tensioned screen is a must. Tripod-style screens will let you down after very little time. This isn't the fault of the projector though.

It is fantastic. Everything you would want in a projector for presentations or a great movie experience. The picture is crystal clear. It doesen't have to be for from the screen to see it. GREAT BUY FOR THE PRICE!!!

I really did love this projector. Honestly, it is perfect, but the reliability has been shockingly poor. My first projector lasted 6 months before it started having issues, so I sent it back and received a replacement (the four replacements that followed this in less than 5 months have all been terrible). The projector is great -- the service has been great -- the reliability has not. I cannot vouch for buying another Optoma projector ever again.. I have Viewsonics, Epsons, Panasonics, Acers, various PICO projectors, all of which I have had working perfectly for years now, the longest running being the Epson that has been around for 9 years and has had two bulb changes. If you buy this projector and nothing brakes then I bet it's a long runner, but if you get a replacement refurbished projector... well.. then your just screwed..

We bought this for our church lounge. Installed it just 4 feet from the 120 inch screen. Looks fantastic and easy to use. The sound is adequate for bible study, FPU and other uses. Added a Vizio sound bar for movie night. Nice projector.
