The author progresses through complicated material in a very precise, methodical way. The hands-on exercises provide real-world examples to reinforce understanding of key concepts.

Better Than My Assigned Book By Far,

This review is from: Oracle 10g Developer: PL/SQL Programming (Paperback)
I had the Joan Casteel SQL/Oracle 11g text book for the first eight weeks of my course, and we switched to a different book for the PL/SQL part. What a difference a book makes! I was floundering trying to grasp concepts in the new book, and getting concepts is what I do best (certainly better than remembering where to put my ' and ;'s). The subject matter was all over the place and there was little attention paid on why we should do something, just how to do it.I broke down around chapter four and spent the extra money to get the Joan Casteel book as a supplement to the assigned book. Thank goodness. In just the first few pages I felt ideas gelling in my brain. Now I read this book first and then go to my assigned text for homework. I just wish it was in Kindle.

The Perfect PL/SQL for novice or intermediate,
By
This review is from: Oracle 10g Developer: PL/SQL Programming (Paperback)
I thought this PL/SQLbook is well organized is great for either the beginner to the intermediate programmer.
It gives you hands on training with the code that you can copy and paste into sql plus. The book is well structured although it has some deprecated information in it like function purity, pragma references, and object technology. The first section starts out with your basic programming in PL/SQL , for instance--if statements, looping, pl/sql begin end blocks, and implicit and explicit cursors. It then moves on quickly to stand alone procedures, functions, and ( packages and specifications together). Towards the end of the book we move into advanced topics like database triggers, predefined packages and dynamic sql which was brief and concised and a must know for any database developer. |
