Needed a case study approach for Ora Fin. A long way to go.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
Oracle Financials implementation is not a trivial task. It is a major cost for any organizations' IT department. This books tries to break the ice on Oracle Finacials compiled information. It is the only book that exists in the field of Oracle Financials. The enormity of this tasks makes it impossible to club all the knowledge one would expect from a handbook. However, it does try to be insightful for ar modules as opposed to explanation of other modules. It is the courage of the authors to delve on such an elusive topic that deserves a special mention. What we need for an implementation is case studies with very particular code specific to that situation. I guess for each module in Oracle finacials one could write a book and that is what is required. Or if we try to slice and dice it from different perspective. Let us assume we try to categorize it from Industry line perspective. One for Energy kind of industry, one for production kind of industry, and so on the classification will become endless what is required is the process identification in a business ( for instance invoicing, billing) and then trying to explain the best practices and implementation for that process. The purpose of this book is introduction to Financials and a brief outlook at each module and project management. I think we need a module-detailed book with processes implementation.

Worth Reading Once,
By Ajit Sawant (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
I must appreciate the efforts of David and Graham to come out with such a book. Those who are used to read Oracle Apps Help and other documentation may not find some thing appealing. The authors have tried to mix functional concepts and some technical info with practical Do's and Don'ts. So may be they are not able to satisfy both to the fullest. This obviously is not possible in single book (in first edition too). Still I would expect the authors to include more of Tips that are not documented and extend the content to include manufacturing, HR and CRM to meants meant for Oracle Applications. This book is definitely worth reading once for all levels of professionals !

Compulsory reading for Oracle Fins clients,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
This book is has just the right mix of Application, Accounting , Business, Organizational and Technical information to make it extremely useful. For new and existing Oracle clients who have been on the training course and are wondering what next, this book and it's great contents definitely point the way to how everything fits together. There are important practical pointers as to what NOT to do and how your data flows will be. Anyone who has worked with the Apps product knows that getting to grips with all the parameters, specific Oracle Terminology and setup issues is half the battle. I have been in several countries across the globe and spoken to numerous users who have read this book who all find it has made the Oracle Fins picture a much more complete one for them. One user commented that this book would be excellent as a university course text book to explain how Accounting Systems work. A job well done by the authors to make the large and complex world of Oracle Fins look so simple in an easy to read and comprehensive book.

An Outline, not a Handbook, of Oracle Finanicials !,
By Ravi Pothukuchy (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
Did someone call it a Handbook? What the book offers is less than a bird's eye-view of Oracle Financials. To be fair to the authors, it is unfair to expect much in a single book on such a complex package like Oracle Financials. However, many important features of Oracle Financials are omitted and at the same time, repeated presentation of the same information, possibly on the same page, irritates you several times. Many graphics are confusing, even to a reader familiar with the topic.Despite being the only source of published information about the subject, the book disappoints you irrespective of your knowledge level of Oracle Financials.

It's not a handbook, just an brief overview,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
We should appreciate that this is the first book published on market talking about Oracle Financials. However, this is the book that contains only general introduction. It doesn't have any detail information either for functional users or technical persons. As an Oracle Financial developer with many years of experience, I don't get any useful information out of it. May be it's good for somebody who don't know Oracle Financials at all.

A lot of sizzle, very little steak.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
The book is obviously written by two men who love Oracle. The book is very fluffy, and won't really help anyone who doesn't already have a good understanding of the applications. It does document the functionality of the application well.

This is the only book globally available on OracleFinancials,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
Though this is the only book globally available on Oracle Financials, sample screens therein are only four, in spite of the large number of accounts and logistic or flexfields therein. In the absence of the same, this book on Oracle Financials will be viewed only as an addition to those already dealing with Financial Management in general.

Excellent Introduction,

This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
For those critics of you out there who think that this book was not this or not that, especially the reader from Port Arthur in Tasmania, I suggest you buy an Oracle Reference Manual or Users guide. Get real! This book gives a great introduction to the core Oracle Applications and I believe it was well done. It introduces the business and Functional side to Oracle Financials. For those pretentious readers who can't spell Oracle read the cover "Oracle Financials Handbook" - "Planning and Implementing the Oracle Financial Applications Suite" No where does it say Technical Reference Manual. I'd like to see these half baked consultants write ANYTHING half as good. Well done David and Graham. If anyone cares to discuss this work email me and we'll "CHAT"

OCP Advisor's recommended reading for 11i OCP exam,

This review is from: Oracle E-Business Suite Financials Handbook (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) (Paperback)
OCP Advisor advises his blog readers at ebizocp dot blogspot dot com on study materials, preparation tips and exam experiences for 11i OCP exams.
OCP Advisor recommends the Oracle Financials Handbook as a must read to review your concepts and use the book to prepare flash cards and exam cram checklist. While a handbook cannot replace user guides and other documentations, it serves as an excellent tool to revise the fundamentals tested in the certification exams. The book should be undergoing a makeover pretty soon as Release 12 introduces radically new features for the Oracle Financials foundation. Read more about R12 at oracler12 dot blogpsot dot com. Happy Reading!

Not worth the time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Financials Handbook (Oracle Press Series) (Paperback)
As a functional business analyst, this book offers little about topics an experienced IT professional already knows. The discriptions are brief and of little use. The book is really a high level discussion that exists in Oracle documentation. If I could I would return the book. With a title of 'handbook', one would expect good insight on how-to's. Don't bother, it's not in here.
