Worth the price for the Developer/2000 chapters alone,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
This book does an "OK" job of covering the two SQL exams in Developer/2000's five-exam gauntlet. But I needed to use Oracle Press's PL/SQL Programming book to learn about some things that aren't covered in this book's SQL chapters. That isn't a big deal...every developer I know has the PL/SQL Programming book anyway. Where the Application Developer Exam Guide shines is it's chapters on Developer/2000. It succeeds in giving the "big picture" of how Developer/2000's various parts fit together, while still presenting all the details accurately. Those chapters alone rate the book five stars. Before buying this book, I had already read the Developer documentation (almost useless), Oracle Press's Developer Handbook (bizarre and unfocused), and a book from Prentice-Hall (all I can say is "eh"). It wasn't until I read this Exam Guide's chapters on Developer/2000 that it all came together and I understood what was really going on. If I had started with it, I would have saved a lot of time. Get this book and the PL/SQL Programming book, and you will have ALL the information you need to become OCP-certified. If you already know SQL and want to learn about Developer/2000, this book has the stuff you need to know.

Pretty Good, but do not rely on this alone,
By Jim Weber (Columbia, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
I have been using this book to prepare for the OCP Developer Exams. The book covers about 80% to 90 % of what you need to know (which is typically enough for you to pass the exam). I have just started reading the forms portion of the book and it seems to be inclusive enough for one to pass the exams. The information for the second exam (Programming PL/SQL Units) is not completely correct, especially the areas concerning what happens to related procedures and functions when you recompile related PL/SQL programming units. What I found VERY useful was to order sample test problems for each exam and use these in conjunction with this book. That way, I not only got a good review of the material from the book, but got at chance to look at actual exam questions (which in term identified the areas in the book that are lacking). Again, buy the book to help get you through the exams, but order test questions as well.

The Best Book Available For Oracle Developer/2000,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
This book covers it all. SQL, PL/SQL, Forms, Reports, Graphics...the works. I bought it and methodically went through each unit, and then took each exam. I passed every one of them! I had had a little bit of experience with Developer before, but I wouldn't have passed a single exam without this book. Bravo!

A must HAVE book for any oracle developer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
For all those planning on building an application using oracle developer and/or especially planning on becoming an OCP, this is a MUST have book !There are only a few books that cover oracle developer and i'm glad that out of those few, there is a great one like this. I don't think anyone will complain about the forms tutorial because it's so well written. Even though you have experience in building forms before, this book shows how to do things in different ways, ways that are probably easier and more efficient. The sql and pl/sql does pretty good job but you should read another book along with this one. For the forms, this is all you need ... guaranteed. The reports is probably the hardest test so you should read this book and do a lot of practice reports. I just passed all 5 test and i don't believe i would of done as well without this book.

Excellent,
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
I want to say that this book is a must to get certified by Oracle. This week I passed the last exam (the Report one), and I can say that without this book you will never certify. I have finished all the five exams (from the first time-Thanks God) using this book as my main study tool (along with the Sideris manuals as a minor references). I can say that this exam guide will cover %95 of the material tested in exam 3&4 (Forms), 80% of exam 5 (Reports-which in my opinion is the most difficult), 80% of exam 2 (procedure features), and 90% of exam 1. As it is clear from this figure the material covered will help you pass all exams. For the report exam I think you should have supplementary material (like Sideris) for two topics tested: Matrix report and lexical parameters) but even without that you can pass the exam. In short, buy this book if you want to be OCP-Application Developer. I highly recommend it. Excellent work by Oracle Press.

Strong coverage of Developer Forms & Reports,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
At last, a readable book on Developer/2000. I wasn't planning to take any exams when I bought it...I just needed to learn Developer, and wasn't happy with any other book I found. After I bought this and saw how accessible Developer can be, I started signing up for exams. I've passed both Forms exams, and am schedule for the Reports exam. (I put the PLSQL exams last, because those parts of this book could use some help...they contain some mistakes, and I want a second book to augment the information.)For Developer alone, this is the best book available. For Developer and PLSQL, this plus the PLSQL Programming book are the unstoppable duo.

Big help in passing the OCP Tests for people w/ limited time,
By Manohar Juloori (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
I bought the book a couple of months ago. I really like it because it gives the necessary material and very good tips for the OCP tests.CD-ROM based tests are useful in testing our knowledge of the material. The authors' style is very lucid and engaging. What I really liked the most in the book are the way triggers (Database and Forms) and Packages are covered! For the SQL Test it is a good idea to brush up the topics using Kevin Loney's Complete Reference book and for the PL/SQL Test use the O'Reilly book by Feuerstein to supplement the material in this book--Belt and Suspenders approach! I believe that my money was well spent on this book.

This book has the stuff,

I just finished taking both Forms exams, and passed both with over 90%! It's all because of this book. Without it, I never would have known how much material was on the exams that I hadn't encountered in day-to-day use. Now I'm starting my study on the Reports exams. An earlier review says something about missing files. The book isn't SUPPOSED to have any sample files. You build everything yourself, and that's part of what makes the information sink in so well. I wouldn't want it any other way. All in all, this is an excellent preparation for the exams!

Number 1 Book for Developer Forms and Reports!,
By Ranju E Balah (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
The PL/SQL part of this book has some problems, but things picked up when I reached the Forms sections. Clear and concise, with great examples and exercises. Much better than the documentation or the Handbook. Money well spent!

application developer exam guide,
By SATAR VAFAPOOR (TORONTO, CANADA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide with CDROM (Oracle Press Series) (Hardcover)
This is definitely the best book in the market for the OCP developer exam. I looked at many other Oracle books, but I found this one to be the most complete when it comes to the OCP exam. I had no past experience in Oracle or databases. I passed all five exams using this book as my primary source. The first four exams are covered in good detail. However the section on REPORTS was not covered in as much detail as I would have hoped. I would have liked to see more examples on matrix and lexical references. Also row triggers were not explained as clearly as I would have liked. My advise is that if you want to take the OCP exam USE THIS BOOK.
