4.0 out of 5 stars good information, April 8, 2005
Few months ago we decided to implement Data Guard for three of our databases and the only help available at that time was 1000+ pages of Oracle Manual. Book by Mathew Hart doesn't go beneath the skin of this important topic. Later last month, this book on data guard was bought for our department and initially I was hesitant to spend time reading it (usually I read only O'REILLY books). But low and behold, final verdict is : its a good informative book.

1. Covers all areas of Oracle Data Gurad.
2. Written simply - No imaginative stories.
3. Best suitable for usual data guard jobs -- setting up, managing , switchover etc.

However, it could have been better. In my opinion it lacks

1. Coverage of Data Guard interaction with OEM.
2. Running data guard in RAC (though its not much different than single instance).

Worth the money (even though it wasn't mine ! ).

1.0 out of 5 stars not very useful, October 4, 2005
By DBAdmin (California) - See all my reviews
I had high hopes when I purchased the book. After reading it over, I found it poorly organized, written and edited. The information was little more than what's available in the Oracle documents and in metalink, as has been pointed out. The cartoons sprinkled throughout were distracting, amateurish, unfunny, and, in the case of the one on page 210, offensive.
I have several books in this series and really like a few of them. Oracle Privacy Security Auditing is especially good. I wish the same were true of this waste of good paper.
