Comprehansive, easy to use Oracle version reference,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
Developing Oracle tools which need to run with Oracle 7.3, 8 and 8i databases we have found this book invaluable in identifying Oracle version differences and allowing us to quickly gear our product to run on each of the different Oracle DB versions. For us this book represents a highly used desk reference which has saved us countless hours by providing us a simple and easy to use command reference set.

Both of the previous reviews are right.,
By Joe Nonneman (Schaumburg, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
In the two previous reviews the authors gave this book one star and five stars, respectively. Both are right. This is not a learning book, it is a detailed reference. You should not count on learning anything from this book. However, I use it every day to get the syntax right for cryptic Oracle create, grant, and alter statements. It is small, concise, and a bargain. As a reference it is a good book. However, it should not be the only Oracle book you own.

The BEST guide for Oracle Experts,
By Lloyd Bowen (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
This book was written for Oracle experts. It provides specific information for Oracle commands, however it expects that you know what to do with the information. I use it all the time as I generally know what I want to do, and have a good idea about what command I need to use to do it, but I'm fuzzy on the exact syntax of the command. This one little book has replaced several large tomes from Oracle and remains a critical component to my Oracle toolkit. It is much more complete than any other Oracle reference I have found.

Great Book, but Out-of-Date,

This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
This is a great book I've kept with me for years. I used to reference all the time, but now I reference it less and less because it only covers through Oracle 8i. Is he going to come out with a edition that covers at least through Oracle 10g?

I have a stack of Oracle Books... 8 and 9. This is the book I use the most. I always carry this book. I would like to see one small sample code on some of the more complicated syntax's, but otherwise it's a great book. The size of the book makes it so much more appealing than the rest of my books.I would like to see a new/updated edition. Maybe add an appendix with some info on the dictionary tables.

Great addition to Oracle library,
By Thomas Ulrich (Powell, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
What I like alot about this book besides compacting lots of great Oracle information used every day is the thickness of paper used to allow over 500 pages in half the space of other books thereby making the book alot easier to handle. This makes it much more accessible as a desk reference which is what it is intended to be. I have this plus a few other books in a small stack on my desk within armreach that I refer to frequently not only because they have great content but because they are easy to grab and flip through. The big, thick books look nice and impressive on a bookshelf but I'll bet many of you haven't opened them in years. We have the pdf files of Oracle docs, anyway, so who needs the concrete blocks?

The ONE book I always carry in my briefcase,
By Janet K Bacon (Golden, Co United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
While this book does not contain a lot of detailed explanations about Oracle features, built-in packages, parameters, etc., it certainly does serve the purpose the I believe the author intended it to serve. It is a condensed version of about 10 different books from the core set of Oracle documentation. It is the single book I always carry in my briefcase while visiting clients - Extremely useful for quickly looking up syntax and definitions. Thanks so much for lightening the load!

QUICK REFERENCE, COVERS VERSIONS 7.3 TO 8i,
By Muhammad Ali Rizvi (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
This book is good for experienced Oracle Developers to use it as Quick Reference. I liked it because it covers versions 7.3 - 8i and I am using all these version at the same time. Some times you know commands but not know every attributes of it, this book will help you in this case. This book is handy so don't need to carry all Oracle Manuals just for reference purpose. When you need more information you always refer Oracle Manuals.

The oracle documentation is better,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle Desk Reference (Paperback)
This book is simply a compilation from the Oracle documentation. I actually preferred the Oracle documents. I didn't gain anything new by buying this book (which I promptly returned).
