4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the "Priestess"
For those of you who don't know, "Oracle" is the second volume of Yu Watase's manga, Fushigi Yugi. In volume one, we were introduced to Miaka, who gets magically plunged into a book entitled "The Universe of The Four Gods"; a sort of a Chinese fairy-tale, if you will. In it, she meets a couple of very hot guys who fall in love with her (well, this...

1.0 out of 5 stars FY Uncut please.
Yes, this book is fun to read... However, not only are the scans not up to par in some pages but (here was a shocker for me)

THE CHAPTER TITLE PAGES WERE MISSING!!!!!!!
EVERY ONE!

Instead of this, they just put the chapters title right into the manga on the first scene. Yuu Watase usually puts an establishing shot (such as trees) in the first frame, and they put...

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the "Priestess", January 23, 2000
This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
In it, she meets a couple of very hot guys who fall in love with her (well, this is *shojo* after all ^_~). In order for Miaka to escape the book (who'd wanna! ), she has to find the "seven constelations" (seven people, each of whom have a chinese character for a constelation) and release the power of Suzaku. In book two, we start to get a better feel for the characters. At times it does get a little melodramatic, but it was still a very sweet and funny book. I think the reason I like Watase sensei, even though I don't go for shojo in general, is that she sort of mocks the conventions associated with girl's manga. The "Pardon the Parody" sections are perfect examples; in them, Watase sensei takes scenes from this manga, changing the last frame to make it into a joke. They are simply hilarious, and help to keep the manga from seeming too sappy. All in all, "Oracle" is a good follow up to "Priestess." Be warned, though: It ends in a clifhanger (arrgg! Why don't they publish manga faster?) ^_^

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entertaining book!, September 20, 2000
This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
Fushigi Yugi is the 1st manga book I ever bought. It is very entertaining, definitely will make you laugh out loud! I read the summary of the story on the net before I decided to spend money on the graphic novels. Trust me, it is a totally different experience to see the real plot. Graphic novels are a good choice to buy, because you can read more in one neat book, rather than in lots of books, if you know what I mean. In case you didn't know, FY's third volume is already out-"Disciple" check it out. I personally love the art work of Watase Yuu, it has some really sophisticated, detailed graphs, as well as some funny cute ones! I just love the combination! Anyway, it is 100% worth to own the book, and an absolute page turner, oh and those hopelessly romantic scenes^~^ My e-mail address is zsunny218@hotmail.com, if you have any hesitations towards purchasing this products, feel free to ask anything,ok?

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story that goes along with wonderful art, March 18, 2000

This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
I've been a fan of Fushigi Yuugi ever since one of my friends introduced me to it. Now I own three volumes, plus the 1st and 2nd OAVs....and still can't get enough of it. The TV series is different from the manga, the events in it are either switched around, or changed entirely. This volume covers volume 2 and the first part of volume three, and the art compliments the story well. Though I frowned a little bit when Viz used the Chinese names for most of what the TV series used the Japanese names for, I still enjoyed it very much. I cannot wait until "Disciple" comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite artwork, and captivating story, April 7, 2000
This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
Yu Watase has to be my favorite manga artist of all time because her illustrations are beautifully detailed. This series is a mythical tale of the adventures of Miaka (aka Suzaku no Miko)and her gorgeous (**drools** ^_~) seishi as they try to summon the god Suzaku. In this installment Miaka must find a way out of the book, Hotohori's attempts to gain Miaka's love continue, the hiliarious truth about Nuriko is revealled (if you really want to enjoy this DON'T GET SPOILERS - I did, and do I ever regret it!) Tamahome realizes his true feelings for Miaka, and Yui gets lost inside the story. If you are looking for a manga with beautiful pictures, romance, humour, plenty of bishonen, war, frienship and betrayal (in other words a GREAT story) get this series. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best series ever, January 31, 2000
This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
I'm one of the biggest Fushigi Yuugi otaku's ever!

*otaku- obsessive fan

And for anyone who loves anime and manga, well hey, for anyone out there, I would definately recomend this book (although you should read Priestess first or you might get confused). Theres alot of character development (and very big and VERY suprising discovery about one of them) and the art and story line are beautiful, but I hope your patient for the next one because the end is a major cliffhanger.

After watching the spectacular Fushigi Yuugi TV series, it was really interesting to read the manga. I especially like how in every chapter (there are six) creator Yu Watase holds sort of an open forum, talking about her motivation, her character creation, etc. I can't wait until volumes 4,5 nd 6 come out!

Lessee... Fushigi Yugi is one of the most most well written, beautifully drawn, and whole-heartedly funnyandsadandadventurousanddramaticatthesametime mangas I have ever read, and that's saying something. The only artists who parallel and surpass Watase-san's lovely, flowing, and occasionally cute artwork are CLAMP. Go Watase!

4.0 out of 5 stars So much fun! (a French fan), February 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
I must admit I'm completely fan of Watase's epic manga : it gathers humour, adventure and drama!
Even when the plot gets darker Watase manages to take it lightly by inserting some hilarious parodies of the story itself! very daring!
I bought the first volume to try then the six others and I could'nt stop reading it, it just gets better and better...
I can't wait the next one to be released! ;)
The only hic! : it's a pity we don't have a french version of this great edition! ok ok I'm not complaining :p
En bref un manga à savourer !!! :D

This review is from: Oracle (Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 2) (Paperback)
I defy anyone not to fall in love with this story. The characters are amazing and the plot line has something of everything. It has action, drama, comedy, and romance. This is the second book in the saga of Miaka (the Priestess of Suzaku), the seven constellation warriors, and her friend Yui. Exhausted, Miaka's friends must return her to her own time to recover her strength. But when she returns to her own time, what will happen to Yui? What about the world inside the Universe of the Four Gods? Find out!
