As a teacher in the Oracle Internet Academy, I can attest to the fact that this book is NOT for beginners. The publishers would have you believe that a complete novice can learn Java with this course, yet the book makes regular references to other programming languages. A colleague of mine has supplemented his course with the "Dummies" book, and he says that it covers the material in a more "beginner oriented" way. I came into the class with no programming experience, and after reading the book 4 times I am looking for more help. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think so.

No it is not for... da, I should be learning VB beginners. But, I used it in Orcale Academy in High School and thought it was wonderful. I since went to college for applied math and computer science and used it as a reference for my other JAVA classes. It would get you through the Computer Science A exam with no problem. You will need an addition book for data structures for AB exam
