About the Author

Daniel L. Williams, PhD

Daniel Williams first began working with Primavera in 2001 as part of an integration project with JD Edwards World. Since then, he has helped clients integrate Primavera with many other systems, such as PeopleSoft, Timberline, and Oracle EBS. His work centers around helping people make best use of Primavera and other software investments. Sometimes this involves heavy integration; sometimes it involves customization and automation of business processes. Sometimes it simply involves listening to people talk through their business goals and helping them come up with workable solutions. Daniel's background includes a Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech, many years of programming in C, C++, C#, and Java, and for the past decade, leading numerous software development projects oriented around Primavera

Elaine Britt Krazer

She has a Masters Certificate from George Washington University 2002, and her Project Management Professional (PMP®) and ITIL Foundations certifications. Format: Paperback
The book is one of the most comprehensive titles I have read on Primavera. Each module whether the Thick client or the Web Module has been explained in great detail and easy to understand language. I just hope a few more examples were used to cover all the functionalities explained in the book. The book is quite extensive and will suit all readers may it be Beginners or experts. There are a lot of books in the market explaining the Standalone client in great detail but Daniel has made sure that the web module is explained thoroughly and this will suit all the Enterprise users of Primavera.

Extract:
"In summary I'd say this book is a `must have' resource for any P6 user whether you're a novice or a seasoned veteran. I have to admit that I learned a few things myself while reviewing it and will definitely be purchasing my own copy. It's loaded with abundant details and facts that I can never seem to keep in my head, so for me it will be an invaluable tool for reference and research whenever I might find myself stumbling down amnesia alley."

One of the refreshing aspects of this book is that it is written by people that have used the products for years in a real world environment. They have taken the lessons learned and incorporated it into one manual for the rest of us. This book is well written and will give you insight into a software product that is not always user friendly. I highly recommend anyone that uses Primavera P6 on a daily basis to buy it and keep it by your desk. Even if you have been using the product for years, you will find nuggets of information in here that you may not even had ever thought about.

At PlannerTuts.com, we're delighted when new books on Primavera P6 are published, especially this one.

The author's have taken on a wide scope and have done so well. Written to be "a gentle introduction to P6″, Williams and Krazer cover Oracle's Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management tool from end to end. The focus is on 3 main areas:

How to use P6 to build schedules
Basics of Portfolio Management and Analysis
Resource Management
There is even an appendix chapter on integration of P6 with cost management systems like Peoplesoft or JD Edwards.

I recommend Oracle Primavera P6 Version 8: Project and Portfolio Management to any user, new or seasoned, of Primavera P6 EPPM. It's a valuable and detailed reference for a complex and sophisticated project management tool.

I was asked to review this book by the publisher and I was so impressed, I've just purchased my own Kindle version so that it will be with me when I'm on the road. You can read my full review at [...].
In summary I can tell you that as a long-time user and instructor of Primavera P6, I found this book to be excellent as both a self-study tool and reference guide. It's direct, no-nonce narrative and crystal clear examples provide the reader with the right information to understand the concepts, functions and best practices for mastering Primavera P6. Ample screen shots and diagrams help you to navigate the interface and understand the context of the topics. The book is thorough in detail and yet will not overwhelm the reader. I can happily recommend this book to both novice and expert alike.
