light entertainment,
By Margaret P. "mhp2027" (Boulder, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle Quest: Book 1 in the Quest Series (Quest (iUniverse Paperback)) (Paperback)
"Oracle Quest" starts in the real world, where a young lady, K, is unsatisfied with her life -- single, career going nowhere. Feeling dizzy one evening, K falls asleep on the couch and dreams she is in another dimension, a magical land very different from our own. The denizens there seek her help to overthrow a tyrant and restore peace. Eventually, K discovers that this isn't a dream, and decides to help.
This novel is nicely written, light hearted and entertaining. The other realm is unique in ways that are a fun surprise. There isn't much character development or depth, but neither are there depressing events or a dour mood. Overall, this is simply an upbeat book, worth reading, suitable for a lazy afternoon. It will probably appeal to teens as well as adults. The first few chapters can be read on the publisher's web site (iUniverse).

Absolutely Amazing!,

While this book is aimed at fantasy fans, anyone who enjoys a great storyline with well-drawn, engaging characters and humor to boot will LOVE Oracle Quest. Ms. DeGroodt has a real talent for drawing the reader into her story. With no effort at all, the reader is transported to the mystical Land where magic AND mayhem abound. Like the title character, we experience all of the sights, sounds and discoveries of this new place, falling in love with its innocence as well as its mystery. The fight against Evil has never been so tantalizing and so urgent, as the stage is set for what promises to be a long line of great stories to come. Alive with emotion, action, laughter and an unerring sense of hope, Oracle Quest begs you to continue the journey, to follow along on the adventure and to become a part of the Quest. BRAVO!

Great Beginning to a Series,

At this point, I have read several Lisa Wright DeGroodt's books in the Quest Series. Oracle Quest is the most simple of the group, but it does a great job at establishing her "world" and creating the characters. [...] I find the character development to be very good. There is a definite sense of purpose and the characters are written in such a way that they are believable and imaginable. In this first Quest, Katie becomes the first traveler to the Land and helps to rescue the Prince and re-establish him as the ruler. There are several great scenic treks across the Land's interesting Landscape and interesting characters like Beaufin the wizard and Maxt the guardsman. I recommend this book on its own merits, but even more so as the first of a really good series. The books only get better as they go.

I discovered this author by accident while browsing new books and I am truly happy I found her and I am hooked on the story line. She has taken the battle between good and evil and brought it to another dimension of understanding and exploration. Her characters are very human and yet show us our untapped potential. I highly recommend this entire series for readers of all ages.

Oracle Quest: Book 1 in the Quest Series (Quest (iUniverse Paperback)) is such a wonderful find. From the first page to the last you feel yourself sinking into it like a comfy cozy chair and it touches your soul. How nice it is to find a book with a strong message of the power of good over evil and that even a young woman can find the strength in herself to be a hero. Lisa Wright DeGroodt has weaved a tale here that is not mere literary fluff but sink your teeth into it good. I cant wait to read the rest of the series.

I heard about this series from a Harry Potter Podcast several months ago. I searched all the local bookstores and could not find it. I ordered Oracle Quest from Amazon and ordered the other 4 books in the series before I was half way thru it.
I have been searching for something that would fill the gap left with the last Harry Potter book. I have read several of the new series that have appeared and found them pale shadows. I was pleasantly surprised with the Quest series. I love the main character on the quest being female. (also true in 2nd & 4th books). So much fantasy gets sappy but this is not the case here. They are strong characters who don't swoon but also don't turn into "Chicks in Chainmail". I plan on giving this series as christmas gifts to my friends. The books are relatively short. They are ideal for taking on the plane and finishing up by the time you get back home.

This is the authors first book and you would never know it from the read. This is an excellant book and would appeal to anyone looking for a great Action/Adventure book. The author throws in a little romance, to appeal to the ladies, but keeps the action level at high pitch to keep the reader sitting on the edge of their seat. It is well written by a great author. Definitely a MUST read!
