Excellent addition to DBA tool box!,

This book has saved me several hours of work. The text is well thought out and well laid out so the precise script you are looking for can be easily found. Also, the annotations are clear and meaningful to the point where extending the functionality of the scripts (which is rare considering the depth and bredth of the script catalog) is simple enough that my Junior DBAs had no trouble doing so. If this isn't in a DBAs book shelf, it should be!

This book is jam packed with scripts and stored procedures, provided on an included CD-ROM, with full explanations and documentation. The contents of some scripts are not new to experienced Oracle DBAs and developers, but the documentation and explanations are invaluable. I have a fairly good script library of my own, yet I have not had the book long, and have already found several improvements to make to my own scripts and several new scripts that are definite "keepers".Disclaimer: I've met both authors, but know Carmichael slightly better. Loney's other books are the best available on their topics, IMHO, and Carmichael has been a top notch presenter at various Oracle user conferences. This makes me a bit biased, but this book is highly recommended.

So many of the books out there are just beginner material, this is the first one I've found that shows how to do coding well. The format walks you through the material so you can pick up tricks and techniques as you go along. Plus the examples actually work.

Finally some book worth of every penny. This title is categorized in our company as "MUST HAVE". I will highly recommend it to every Oracle DBA or developer on this planet. After few month of using it I can honestly say it is most useful book from my Oracle library.

Excellent Book - Used Time and Time Again,

This was one of the first Oracle DBA books I read and it was excellent. I have written numerous DBA admin and repair scripts that run in NT 'AT' jobs at night and this book gave me a great start. The book is well written and the scripts were instantly useful. This book along with a few others is one of the best around and I use it nearly every day. This book blows away the 'Oracle Scripts' book by O'Reilly (although their SQLPlus book is very good.)

My wife "borrowed" my copy and won't return it. I was forced to buy a second copy. Great resource.

The book shows a lot of scripts that show the dictionary tables in a nice report. If you know your way around in the dictionary (mainly V$% and DBA_% tables) and are not interested in a nice layout, most of the scripts are not that hard to make yourself.

This was very useful for a DBA who wants to quickly snag some code to help manage the databases. Well worth the cash.

This SQL Archives book is one of the best Oracle books around. The authors have a knack for identifying with the reader, presenting everything the reader needs to understand the topics.

Something for everybody, a plethora of useful goodies!,

I saw this book at Oracle OpenWorld SF and knew I had to get it! This book has scripts that are immediately useful. Combining these scripts with my own personal library of code has increased my own efficiency and proficiency in Oracle! This is a must buy for anybody programming, operating, or administering Oracle environments. Kudos to Loney and Carmichael for this book! |
