Josef Brinson (Mannheim, Germany), is an Oracle Certified DBA with over 14 years' experience with database architecture, design, and support. His projects have ranged from databases with a few hundred users to systems with thousands of users. Josef has extensive programming experience using VB, C, Fortran, and PL/SQL.
Michael R. Ault (Alpharetta, GA) is Chief Technical Officer and part owner of DBMentors, International, Inc., an Oracle consulting and training firm, and was a quality control expert for the OCP exams. Michael is the author of Oracle DBA Exam Cram: Test 1 and Test 2, and the co-author of Oracle DBA Exam Cram: Test 3 and Test 4. His books have been translated into German, Portuguese, and Chinese.

Passed on Oracle 8i P&T Exam using only this book,

Studied using only Oracle8 DBA: Performance Tuning Exam Cram text to pass the Oracle8i P&T Exam, on the first attempt. Obviously lacking new 8i material, but enough material to pass 8i. I would think the text is great for what it was intended for, passing the Oracle8 P&T

Read this book cover to cover and then went and took the exam and scored over 90%. Book was very helpful in explaining some of the performance aspects of Oracle. I also use it now as a reference for some of the V$ tables in tuning my database.

Great book for praparation of OCP exam,

This book is great for OCP exam. I read it in about a week and score 58/61. Overall, all the three exam cram books for Oracle DBA cert that I have used (Perf tuning, Network Admin and Backup & Recovery) are pretty good. I did not buy the other 2 books because their reviews are not good. I use them and Selftest software to finish all the exams (of course all with high scores) for the certification in 7 weeks. I only started getting info Oracle about 4-5 months ago, but I did have quite some experince with DBMS of other vendors before.But do NOT expect to know everything about tuning Oracle if you do not have any real life experience. This book should be rated 5 stars for OCP exams, but I give it 4 here because it is not good enough for real life experience. If you want to become a real qualified DBA, you will need another book and more practice.
