Studied using only Oracle8 DBA: Performance Tuning Exam Cram text to pass the Oracle8i P&T Exam, on the first attempt. Obviously lacking new 8i material, but enough material to pass 8i. I would think the text is great for what it was intended for, passing the Oracle8 P&T

Read this book cover to cover and then went and took the exam and scored over 90%. Book was very helpful in explaining some of the performance aspects of Oracle. I also use it now as a reference for some of the V$ tables in tuning my database.

This book is great for OCP exam. I read it in about a week and score 58/61. Overall, all the three exam cram books for Oracle DBA cert that I have used (Perf tuning, Network Admin and Backup & Recovery) are pretty good. I did not buy the other 2 books because their reviews are not good. I use them and Selftest software to finish all the exams (of course all with high scores) for the certification in 7 weeks. I only started getting info Oracle about 4-5 months ago, but I did have quite some experince with DBMS of other vendors before.

But do NOT expect to know everything about tuning Oracle if you do not have any real life experience. This book should be rated 5 stars for OCP exams, but I give it 4 here because it is not good enough for real life experience. If you want to become a real qualified DBA, you will need another book and more practice.

You can find all chapters taken from revealnet (now: quest) oracle knowleadge expert program, which evaluation version you can download for free. Explenations in the book are not clear. Do not try to use this book for preparation for Oracle8i exam - it will be waste of money. Many parameters are made obsolete in Oracle 8i, which this book describe. Moreover - there are mistakes (eg: how you call tkprof?). My advice: search for something else.

I don't think there is any important topic that this book doesn't cover. Very good reference of the most important Oracle performance-related dynamic views (can be very useful not only for the test, but equally for DBA job-related tuning tasks afterwards) and a good collection of sample questions. I think the book can also be used for the Oracle8i Performance Tuning test (at least until the 8i Tuning Exam Cram comes out).

I thought this test was the hardest so far. I passed with no problem just by reading the book. Exam Cram has the best stuff for certification tests. No questions. Highly recommend the entire series for Oracle 8 DBA. Can't wait for the Exam Cram 8i upgrade book..

The book contains all you need to pass the 1Z0-014 exam. I was abe to pass with a score of 56/61 mainly with this book.

Many people consider the Performance Tuning Exam to be the hardest of the series. I knew going into the test that there are many views and ratios that needed to be memorized. The book also gave a focus point to know what is important and what is not allowing for proper use of time when your test date is just around the corner.

This book is great for studying and will be a great future reference for commands seldomly used.

I failed my first Oracle8 performance tuning exam almost a month ago. I found the questions cover many things that I had no idea of. Then I bought this book from a local book store and started reading it. Although it contains some errors and some of the paragraphs need to be read more than once to get the meanings, the tips and notes that the book provides are very useful. Someone like me who has no experience in any database software can pass this test with help from this book only (53/61). I'm now officially an Oracle 8 DBA! Thanks!
