I've read this book and it is filled with errors. Have you noticed that the email addresses of these "reviewers" are hotmail.com, yahoo.com and oracle.com?

That really makes me angry!

I bought this book as a complete Oracle novice, transitioning from Microsoft T-SQL to PL/SQL. I was worried about the transition being difficult until I read this book.

It is one of those very rare books that presents advanced concepts in a context understandable by users of all experience levels. The author often throws in tips about Oracle PL/SQL quirks to watch out for, as well as some very applicable information about how Oracle works internally.

I've since become more comfortable with PL/SQL, and the book also serves as a great reference. I highly encourage you to read this book straight through.

I recommend this well-written book to anybody wanting to learn PL/SQL, as well as anyone needing a great reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars One the Best Documents on Oracle 8 PL/SQL features, June 17, 1998

I found "Oracle8 Pl/Sql Programming" to be worth my time and money. Reading the "Oracle8 Pl/Sql Programming" book was like being in the Oracle Education course without paying $2000. Here's why - each chapter has short narrative descriptions of the topics followed by a lab you can do. I like the learn by experimentation approach. Beneficial topics were: Oracle Objects, Collections, DBMS_OUTPUT, TEXT_IO, cursors, and Dynamic cursors. I found "Oracle8 PL/SQL Programming" far superior to the Oracle documentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how ORACLE books should be written., April 19, 2000
This review is from: Oracle8 PL/SQL Programming (Paperback)
The book is plentiful of carefully selected examples, which illustrate each topic in a very clear and real-life simulation. The complete sections of practical real-life examples found at the end of some chapters are very useful and can be modified and used in practical applications. It is really a great job. Buy this book. It is really a great job.

Scott Urman has done a terrific job in explaining PL/SQL with such a clarity, making this subject easy to understand. What I really like is that he uses examples, not jargons, to illustrate PL/SQL concepts. This book is a must-have for everyone who either wants to master PL/SQL or simply want to clear up confusions after reading PL/SQl sections of Koch & Loney (Don't take me wrong, it was also a wonderful book.). This book worths every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great general knowledge PL/SQL book, August 25, 1999

This is a great book for either learning PL/SQL or as a reference. I went through a little better than half of the book word for word before I gave up. But I still use this book as a reference whenever I need to program in PL/SQL. I would suggest this book to anyone who either wants to learn PL/SQL or just needs to check something really quickly. If you use PL/SQL on a regular to semi-regular basis, then this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best PL/SQL manual around!, September 21, 2000

After reading this book, my programming skills leaped from Oracle kindergartener to Oracle goddess! As well as a great introduction to PL/SQL and a thorough reference, this book sits right next to my keyboard when I program. It not only covers basic PL/SQL, but also Oracle built-in packages, objects, collections, debugging, and the list goes on. Whether you're just getting started or having been programming for a while, this is an invaluable resource.

It's an incredible book having good information to build your PL/SQL programming.Basically, it's for those who are aware of SQL and lack Knowledge in PL/SQL.It's a worth buy book.I personally think that i 'm satisfied the way Scott Urman has implemented his deep ideas in the book. The CD-ROM helped me a lot in building my knowledge in PL/SQL.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent book for development and reference !!!, September 4, 2000

I found the book altogether excellent but the examples all center around a class room environment. Most development is for businesses centred around employees. The section on exception handling needs additional information, which is found in other books on the same subject. Overall, its an excellent book, well written and a great help in development and plsql programming !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, July 13, 2000

This is an awesome book. A year and a half ago, I was thrown into a situation where I had to do reporting, data mining and EDI feeds for a MASSIVE UGLY system containing 1400 tables some with over 5 million rows. I didn't have ANY Oracle experience (Just Access *HA!* and SQL Server *Double HA!*) I cranked out this book in 3 days and after a week or so of practice, I was the master.
