1.0 out of 5 stars This was not the best intro text for Oracle, March 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Oracle8i for Dummies (Paperback)
I was reviewing Oracle texts for a high-school database class, and I had the misfortune to stumble upon this text. A more appropriate title might be "Oracle8i by Dummies".

The author clearly does not work much with Oracle, and much is the material has been grossly distorted or just plain wrong. There are many other intro Oracle books that are far more complete. This one was a huge disappointment.

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment, November 11, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Oracle8i for Dummies (Paperback)
I have not read most of the book, but the first couple chapters were not helpful in the task of creating a very simple database within an hour or two, which is what I was looking for. If you are in a big hurry, Oracle8 Bible, by Carol McCullough-Dieter, might be a better choice for someone with no familiarity with Oracle.

1.0 out of 5 stars avoid this book, June 22, 2004
By
Brad (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oracle8i for Dummies (Paperback)
The sample code in the book has typos, the website that is printed for additional help is useless, the sample code downloaded to create the sample database gives an error.
