5.0 out of 5 stars One of Kaempfert's best with then newest recording technique, February 18, 2001

This review is from: Orange Colored Sky (Audio CD)
This CD is the first one which I purchased from amazon.com last year and I recognized that why this has ever been one of Bert Kaempfert's best albums as I listened it through. All the instruments and chorus are heared with clarity and with a certain but desirable stereo phonic distance and you as well as I will understand from liner notes that this original was recorded with multitrack recording. Well, I can only assume that it might have been as ideal as that of today's digital recording? I don't know. To top it off, Many of his & Rehbein team's compositions here such melodies as " My Love " " Wake Up And Live " " Friends " " While The Children Sleep " are indeed heartstring hitter for every one who favors in this genre of music. To say the least, suppose you have none of Bert Kaempfert's CD and want to hear it, I definitely would like to recommend this CD album for such purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF BERT'S BEST ALBUMS !, September 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Orange Colored Sky (Audio CD)
Being a Kaempfert fan for many years already, I have nearly all of his albums in my collection. It all started with the LP 'That happy feeling' where I discovered the all-time evergreens Swingin safari and Afrikaan beat. Many albums followed. Now, with Polydor in Europe and Taragon in the US, his albums are converted into CD. This particular album sounded great on LP and now sounds even better in the "digital" version. The Kaempfert originals like 'Tea and trumpets', 'While the children sleep' and 'Friends' are, in my opinion, some of the best tunes Bert ever composed (and recorded)..! The beautiful arrangements of the other evergreens, (like 'Snowbird') have become classics in the world of easy listening music. This album is in my "top five" of Bert Kaempfert albums. Feeling down a bit ? Put on Bert's 'Orange colored sky' = you'll feel better after a short time, that's for sure !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The first record I ever bought with my own money..., January 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Orange Colored Sky (Audio CD)
This album held such promise. The first of two albums in 1971, "Orange Colored Sky", was also the first to feature Fred Moch's replacement, Ack Van Rooyen, and also the first BK album to be multitracked. The sound is sparkling, the orchestra in fine form, and the arrangements upbeat - plenty of swing to go around. It's to bad that for Ack, it was all down hill from here. His soloing on this LP was sharp, clear, well-intoned, and inspired. I don't know what happened. On subsequent albums through the 70's, his playing got weaker and weaker. The trumpet was so much better suited to Bert's music than the fluglehorn, which became Ack's instrument of choice by 1972. Bert's music continued to evolve until the end with some fantastic albums after this one despite his playing. But enough about that. By '70, Kaempfert's music was taking quite a modern turn, leaving behind for the most part the lush, slower, classic tunes both written and covered in the 60's. The music was faster, the intrumentation more intune with the times and in some cases, louder. The inclusion of the BST hit "Hi-De-Ho" on this album hinted at the possibilities. A raucous good time, while the quieter "While The Children Sleep" is still among Bert's best. A turning point in Bert's career, a great cornerstone album if you've never bought any of Bert's music, and one you can play loud. Invest.
