5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price
This is a terrific kitchen tool that is well worth the price. Two preparation techniques can help you maximize juice extraction:

1. Pressing hard, roll the fruit on a counter-top with the palm of your hand. This loosens the membrane from the rind.

2. Cut an "X" into the face of the fruit after you have sliced it in half. This allows the skin to completely...

1.0 out of 5 stars too heavy for comfortable use; too small for lots of juice
I have an aluminum version of this mexican-style squeezer, use it often and like it a lot, so I wanted to give another as a gift. The soft handle seemed like an improvement, so I ordered this one. Mistake - they mean it when they say heavy cast iron, and the handle isn't too comfortable anyway. The bowl is smaller than it ought to be for modern supermarket limes, and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, June 18, 2003

I am a huge fan of fresh limeade. I've always hated squeezing limes for it and I've tried just about every inexpensive juicer there is. I finally broke down and bought one of these, and it is great! I squeezed 20 key limes in just a few minutes and it got most of the juice out. It works even better with larger limes and lemons. And, it was easy to clean and looks great - bright yellow with black rubberized handles. The only minor problems it has is that it is rather heavy and a little tough to squeeze (enough that it would be horrible for arthritic people) and it tends to spray the juice all over if you squeeze too fast. Despite these issues, I still think this is the best juicer I've ever seen and I am very pleased with my purchase. It is definitely worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, May 5, 2003
By A Customer

I was amazed to get over 8 tablespoons of juice out of 2 limes. The Squeezer is easy to use and the fruit is literally "dry" when you've finished. I think one of the reasons it works so well is due to how heavy it is. I don't know if it's dishwasher safe because it didn't come with any directions or comments.

Mistake - they mean it when they say heavy cast iron, and the handle isn't too comfortable anyway. The bowl is smaller than it ought to be for modern supermarket limes, and definitely too small for lemons. This is probably why some of the other reviewers thought it squeezed too little juice - I have found you need to use a bigger bowl than you might think to get all the juice out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Updated review - had the fruit in upside down!!, January 7, 2004

User error!! I want to bump my review up to 4 stars. I saw a T.V. cooking show that was using the juicer, and to my surprise, the cut fruit goes "down", with the cut side facing the holes in the juicer. I tried it out, and yes, now my technique is refined. I still squirted a little juice, but now I can see that the seeds SHOULD get caught, unless they are tiny. Still doesn't get all the juice, but it is definitely now worth "4 stars".

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke on third lemon!, October 11, 2003

The handle of mine snapped off on the third lemon. You have to use some pressure with this type of squeezer, so this should not have happened. Hurt, too. Also a bit small for home-grown fruit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick for a little juice, not great for several reasons., December 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Orange-X Lemon/Lime Squeezer, Yellow (Kitchen)
The Lemon/line squeezer (mine was green colored) will get about 75% of the juice in a half of a lemon or lime. It is essentially a novelty, that is quick, and fairly easy to use, for juicing a half piece of fruit. This is NOT what I would use if I had to squeeze more than one piece of fruit.
Drawbacks:
1. Need good hand strength to squeeze, since the squeezer is very strong but heavy.
2. Juice squirts out at you, and goes in all directions. (my technique is still being refined)
3. All seeds aren't captured
4. Only about 75% of the juice is extracted.(I like to get all of the juice!)
5. Repositioning the lemon or lime half helps get more juice out, and is usually necessary unless the fruit is very soft.
6. The hinge is made of some reactive metal, that after squeezing a time or two, the juice contacts the hinge, and drips of a grey colored liquid drop from the squeezer(I'm trying to avoid the "grey drips", and maybe with better technique I'll learn how.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the rest!, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Orange-X Lemon/Lime Squeezer, Yellow (Kitchen)
You know if you're going to juice just one lime or lemon for something you can't beat this! Sure it maybe a little bulky, and if aren' smart enough to know that anytime you squeeze the just out of something it's going to squirt a litte out of the side then go back to something bigger! Don't expect perfection for such a reasonable price!!!! For juicing small quantities for cooking or drinks this can't be beat!
The best part is it ISN'T aluminum which means no aluminium oxide when the acid from the juice touches the aluminum. This is coated cast iron! One of the few I've seen! Only thing better would be stainless steel - but can't find it!
Sometime ago I bought 4 or 5 of them for Christmas presents and they were so popular these people bought more for other presents! I'm here to buy more!
