5.0 out of 5 stars Best mechanical timer I've ever seen
I've used others and they always break. I live in a city with high line pressures (80-120psi). This timer appears to be more solidly built than any of the others. Also has a 6 year warranty. 3.0 out of 5 stars Hose faucet timer
This is great and we love these timers. However you have to be aware of a manufacturing defeciency in the turn knob. These knobs break easily off the stem over a little time, so I remove them and fill in the empty space around the stem slot(on the underside of the knob) with epoxy putty. Orbit should really do a better job on these weak knobs.

4.0 out of 5 stars be careful with the dial, April 23, 2009

When I first got this, I broke the dial because I turned it too far. After I fixed it with super glue, the product has been working pretty well. If they had made the dial a little sturdier, then I would've given this product a 5-star rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars my first 1-star review. Unusable as a water shutoff!, July 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Orbit 62018 Lawn & Garden Mechanical Hose Faucet Timer (Lawn & Patio)
I've never given a 1-star review, but this thing just does not work properly. The problem is a really dumb one - the hose connector (female threads) doesn't hold properly. The result is that it pops off the hose, and water then runs freely. Making it worse, it held fine as long as the timer was "on," but when the timer shut off, the increased water pressure popped it off. Fortunately, I was just using it to trickle water, so not a disaster.

The reason it doesn't hold is that someone was trying to save 2 cents worth of plastic. It only has 2 threads (the spirally thingies that go around inside). Minimum number is 3 threads, and to make something leakproof you need 4. The male end (on bottom in the Amazon picture) has 5.

I don't know why everyone else isn't reporting this problem. Perhaps they changed the design. Perhaps other people connect at the faucet rather than at the hose, and for some reason it holds better there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well BUT..., August 26, 2008

This review is from: Orbit 62018 Lawn & Garden Mechanical Hose Faucet Timer (Lawn & Patio)
Originally this timer worked fine...

1st Edit: I have had the timer fail to run (water still on after hours), but only when the hose was stretched, and I expect this would not be unique to this model.
BE SURE IT IS WELL CONNECTED, and HOSE HANGS FREELY; NOT STRETCHED/TORQUED.

2nd Update:
Maybe once it malfunctions it's ruined...
Quit working pretty much completely :-(

I liked this timer at first for its stout little body. It worked well, though it shuts the water off more aggressively than the gentle stop of our Gardenas. Thus it went well for the first season. But in the second season, every once in a while it would stick open. At first I thought it was my error, but then one day after finding it running many hours after it was set for 30 minutes it became clear that it was sticking. Too bad, but our water is much too expensive to risk to this timer.

I had several of these same items for a number of years and I knew to expect good service from new ones. I bought a proven product because I knew what to expect in the way of good service. They are much superior to similar items I had been using.
They are very compact and easy to use.

I have used this model for at least 6 years and it has been a great buy, but yesterday I set it for 45 mins, when shopping, came home several hours later and it as still sprinkling. Am not sure what the problem is but haven't been able to get it to shut off after any of the time setting since then. I liked it well enuf for those 6 years, the price was right, and will order another one.

Not too expensive, no unneeded bells and whistles, simple to operate. I use mine all the time. If it craps out before the end of the summer I'll rewrite the review but so far so good.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT HAPPY, August 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Orbit 62018 Lawn & Garden Mechanical Hose Faucet Timer (Lawn & Patio)
IN THE PAST I HAVE LEFT MY SPRIKLERS ON BECAUSE OF MY POOR MEMORY. I WAS VERY HAPPY WHEN I RECEIVED THREE TIMERS. TWO WORKED FINE BUT ONE DAY I SET MY TIMER TO WATER ONE OF MY GARDENS FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES SINCE I WAS GOING AWAY. WHEN I CAME BACK I FOUND THAT THE TIMER NEVER TURNED OFF MY WATER. I EXPERMENTED WITH IT A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I WAS THERE TO WATCH IT. IT DIDN'T TURN OFF. I HAVE YET OT RECIEVE MY WATER BILL BUT I KNOW IT WILL BE WELL OVER $100 JUST BECAUSE OF A FAULTY TIMER I WAS DEPENDING ON. I AM SURE THAT IS THE REASON THEY HAVE THEM.
I DOUBT IF YOU YOU MAKE THIS RIGHT WITH ME BUT YOU DID ASK.
