3.0 out of 5 stars Good funtionallity but low matereal quality
this product is convenient and easy to install/program but the quality of material is low. I have had to replace it 3 times already.

The plastic encasing and specially the hose plastic connector breaks easily after being exposed to elements for 3 to 5 months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great convenience, watering your plants, July 11, 2007
This is a great product. I have a matching timer with four ports, which I bought as a kit, with two of these valves. I use it with a hose reel and a soaker hose for a bunch of potted plants in the back yard. It's such a great convenience to just set the timer and all your plants are watered consistently, no matter how busy you are. And no more problems with coming home to dying plants, after returning from vacation.

One problem with the valves, as another reviewer pointed out, is that much of the hose connection point is made of plastic. If you put stress on the joint by moving it or hanging it off your faucet, it will break over time. That happened to one of mine, as I connect it to a hose reel through a quick connect. After about 8 months, connecting and disconnecting the hose line, the plastic connection points became brittle, cracked, and started dripping.

To solve this, I would recommend that you use a short flexible extension between the valve and your faucet, so that both ends of the valve are flexible, relieving stress on the plastic parts.

Beyond that, I think the product is great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great, but doesn't last long, September 3, 2009

The unit, when working, is flawless. Because of the plastic construction in the portion of the unit where it attaches to the spigot, the unit cannot tolerate much load, so you need to make sure that you mount the unit with a short piece of hose between the spigot and this valve (to provide "flex") otherwise the stress of holding up the hose will cause this value to break right at the plastic to brass fitting junction.

Also remember to bring these units in at the end of the season.

I did have some of these units replaced by the manufacturer. Orbit is an extremely customer friendly company.

As long as you protect this unit from excessive load (which isn't much) it will work great for a number of seasons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Convenient, inexpensive yard watering, but the valves are flimsy, July 22, 2008

This review is from: Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering System (Lawn & Patio)
I originally bought an Orbit watering kit with a 4 channel controller, 4 way hose manifold and two valves at a local hardware store to water my front yard. It worked well, so I added another valve and eventually bought another kit for the back yard. A few years later the controllers are still chugging along (had to swap the batteries once, otherwise they just do their thing).

But these valves are flimsy plastic and tend to break around the brass connector that connects to the water supply. I've replaced 2 or 3 already and am back buying some more to restock my supply. It's still much cheaper than having underground sprinklers put in, but I wish these valves were $25 instead of $15 and better built.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful product with good design, March 18, 2010
This review is from: Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering System (Lawn & Patio)
This is a useful product for timed watering of your lawn and garden. Do not expose it to direct sunlight for extended period of time; build a shade over it or a box around it. I bought the whole kit (The electronic timer, 4-way manifold, 3-quick connectors, two solenoids, batteries, fasteners, etc. from Costco for only $45, and then additional solenoid valves for only $5 each from Walmart). The online prices are about 3 times too high. Caution: the 4-way manifold is made of aluminum and will break at the neck shortly. You will have to buy one made of brass metal from The Home Depot for about $10. Batteries will last about a year. Overall, this product is quite reliable and is definitely worth the money I paid.

This allows me not to have to remember to turn the water on and off. It is the next best thing to having an inground sprinkler system.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good replacement, bad initial design, September 22, 2009

This review is from: Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering System (Lawn & Patio)
If you're looking for this valve, it's either because you need an additional station on your watering system, or you've found what I did, that these Orbit valves were designed badly in that part of the water inlet coupling deteriorates and breaks below the brass screw-on hose connector. I've had 3 valves do this so far after about a year of use. The bad part is that when it breaks, water pours out of the inlet coupling and it's easy to waste a lot of water if you don't notice right away. Too bad, because the control system itself works well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Good product for the money, August 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering System (Lawn & Patio)
I have 2 full orbit systems on my home. One for the front yard, one for the back. This is my 3rd summer with them. The electronics seem to work fine, but programming them is a pain. The valves are the weak link. After sitting in the sun (attached to the brass 4 way) they dont close as good as they should, which creates howling water pipes. At first i thought my new house was haunted, but it was those darn valves. The silver lining? These bad boys have a 5 year warranty. Who gives warranties like that anymore? No one! This alone makes it a wise purchase. As the valves start to die, i call orbit and tell them of my problem. They ship me new ones. I actualy just bought 2 more new ones to have as spares. Know that they are gonna give out on you, but also know that Orbit IS there to back thier product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic... but..., September 9, 2007
This system is great but the material quality is low. The outer casting is made from inferior material and it does not last more than a year. It will eventually crack inside the hose ring causing it to leak and need to be replaced. The units do have a lifetime warranty and so far Orbit has been good about sending me free replacements. Just remember to go to their web site and send them an e-mail explaining that the unit has failed.

Kind of a hassle but it sure beats watering by hand.

5 stars for the idea & functionality

1 star for durability
