Product Description

Size: Garden Enforcer

Orbit Garden Enforcer motion-activated sprinkler features a height-adjustable tripod that adapts to your growing garden and landscape. The tripod adjusts from 28" to 54" Inch to keep deer away from vegetable gardens, repel cats from flower gardens, scare birds from strawberry patches and ponds and deter dogs from lawns. Other pest and animal repellent methods simply do not provide the same level of simplicity and control: deer fences are expensive; deer netting is inconvenient; and, deer repellent wears off. When it comes to deer control – as well as control of birds, cats, dogs, skunks, opossums and other similar pests and animals – Don't hurt ‘em, just squirt ‘em. U.S. Pat. No. 7,637,475; D674,865; and other Patents Pending.

I used to be buy a similar product, the original Contech "scarecrow", and I have gone through about ten over the last ten years. This is the first Yard Enforcer I tried. Knowing the weaknesses of the scarecrow I was hoping that this would be a better solution. I keep buying these motion sensor sprinkler to keep the deer, racoons, and geese out of our yard, and I normally have three of them set up at the same time to cover several areas at once.
As soon as I opened the package I realized why this was a bit more expensive than the scarecrow. The Yard Enforcer is made of better materials, the stake and base are made of metal, and so is the hose connection, the plastic housing to which the sprinkler attaches is sturdier as well. The motion sensor part works very well and appears to have a better wide-angle sensitivity than the scarecrow. I like that you can actually adjust how long the sprinkler will stay activated. It's also a terrific idea to have two additional hose ports in case you want to hook up additional (standard) sprinklers to be triggered by the Yard Enforcer. I expect that this will last several years longer than the scarecrow before it breaks. I am glad I spent a little more money on this unit. If all goes well, I will be replacing the last few scarecrows I have with more Yard Enforcers.

Size Name: Yard Enforcer Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
If you can't have an 8-foot deer fence, this is the best way to protect your plants from deer, rabbits, squirrels, and other plant-grazers. Stinky chemicals have to be purchased, reapplied, and ruin the fragrance of your garden. This method simply uses water and runs on 4 AA batteries all season. This is the way to go.

For the past two years, we have used the Contech CRO101 Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler to keep deer out of our flower beds. It did keep the deer away, but with a few drawbacks. The biggest disadvantage was that it was on all the time. After my husband received a faceful of water while dressed in a suit and on his way to work, he became so concerned about inadvertent drenchings that he turned it off. After all, showering your neighbors or their children who come into the yard to look at your tulips is not good for your reputation. Also, the sensor didn't seem to work reliably.

The Yard Enforcer solves the inadvertent drenching problem with a dial that gives you the option to operate it in daytime, nighttime or always. Perfect! The infrared motion sensor recognizes movement (people or animals) at about 30 feet, day or night. The sprinkler is forceful and has very good range. Unlike that of the Scarecrow, the ground spike is sturdy metal. Orbit has taken an effective concept and improved it.

Tulip Munchers, beware! The Yard Enforcer is on the job!

UPDATE: We have a beautiful bed of 400 tulips in front of our house. People stop to photograph the flowers. Without Yard Enforcer, we would have NO tulips. It works!

Size Name: Yard Enforcer Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I got this on a whim. Strapped it to our back deck's post (took a bit of strap adjustment). Set it to spray across the deck and stairs. Cats (and raccoons, too, but at night) start to come up the stairs to sun, water sprays, cats run = simple, easy, effective. Definitely better than me going out onto the upper deck and dumping a bucket of water down onto the cat(s).
Three things:
-We currently don't go out the downstairs back door often (a few times a year) as our backyard is not finished. Yep, been here 36 years and the back yard is essentially wild California Coastal vegetation that I weedwack a few times a year. So us forgetting the Enforcer and getting sprayed is not an issue, or at least an infrequent issue. Also, there's a hose bib adjacent to our deck.
-We have absolutely nothing against our neighbor's cats. In fact, they are the most outgoing, affectionate cats and fun to have around. Unfortunately, our downstairs-indoors-only cat has a conniption fit every time she sees/hears another cat outside the door.
-We are in the process of redoing our front yard and my wife now has raised beds out there. She has made it abundantly clear that the Orbit 62100 will be doing pest (defined as any moving thing that might adversely affect anything she puts in the raised beds) prevention there. Might have to buy another to keep the cats at bay ;-)

PROS: Extremely adjustable, effective (so far).
CONS: None, as long as you do not forget it's there, and as long as you're willing to spend the time to micro-adjust the coverage.

NOTE: I haven't needed to do this to the Enforcer (yet), but for those of you who have need of limiting the photocell detector's "visible range", I've found duct tape to be a great addition for limiting automatic lighting sensitivity.

I rated this product a 3. I would have rated it lower but it's an innovative and well made device. However, it is completely ineffective against small to medium dogs, cats and pesky racoons. While it's an innovative design it has two critical flaws. To be effective against animals smaller than a deer the water stream height needs to be adjustable and come out horizontal to the ground. This enforcer, like all other similar types, utilizes a standard yard water sprinkler that shoots in an elevated arc. This device has no provision for above ground height adjustment. I modified mine to sit much closer to the ground by using pvc pipe adapters from Home Depot to eliminate the 8" center pipe. When setting up in the yard I install the spike at a steep angle so that at least a small portion of the water blast arc comes straight out at about 6" above the ground before arching up ineffectively. Mine has been set up now for over a month and is still operating on the original batteries. I periodically move the device around backyard area so that the racoons are less likely to adapt to it's new position. I would say that so far I have noticed less evidence of racoons using my backyard as their favorite latrine.
