5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes Unknowns Impress., July 26, 2006
This review is from: Orbitals (Audio CD)
Acroma is another one of those good bands didn't hit it big or really get any radio play at all. It's actually kind of sad how so many unknown bands like doubleDrive, Lifer, Mad at Gravity, and Sinch don't do well due to the fact that the bigger bands of mainstream radio drown them out. Acroma fits perfectly into the mess as a band that probably would have done a whole lot better if it had been the first of its kind. "Orbitals" is actually a really good album that fans of Mad at Gravity or A Perfect Circle should check out. I enjoyed pretty much all of the cd I had picked up shortly after hearing "Don't Think Just Move" on Internet radio. My favorite tracks on this album are "Sun Rises Down", "Don't Think Just Move", "Sweat", and "Orbitals". My track ratings are as follows...

1. Careless Ones (Intro) - 9.5/10
2. Sun Rises Down - 10/10
3. Sweat - 10/10
4. Wash Away (Some Desert Night) - 9.5/10
5. Don't Think Just Move - 10/10
6. Motive - 9/10
7. Perfect - 8/10
8. Big Karma Now - 9/10
9. Distance - 6/10
10. Orbitals - 10/10
11. On That Day - 9/10
12. Slow Down - 8.5/10
13. Take The Pain - 7.5/10

Overall: 89% B+

It just goes to show you, just because the band didn't make it big doesn't mean they aren't good. Maybe you may not find it as good as I do but I'm positive you should find something you like on this cd if you are a fan of music style like A Perfect Circle.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest thing that never happened..., June 23, 2005
This review is from: Orbitals (Audio CD)
This was a bitter sweet moment for me after finishing listening to this album. One of the most awesome audio experiences of my life yet tragic becuase I'll never hear another album from them.

I am a HUGE fan of Tool and APC and was just blown away when I heard this album. I got chills when I heard "Don't Think Just Move". It just reeked of APC and I LOVED IT!!!

I heard "Sun Rises Down" on The Torch on XM radio (was Acroma a Christian band? Cause Torch is a Christian station). Anyways, I heard it and just instantly got this great vibe and started humming the tune and after listening to the album realized that every song is like that.

The album kicks off with an eerie calm that you don't really know what to expect. It has a haunting and etherial feel to it and then this incredibly cool guitar lick comes in reminicent of Jerry Cantrell's (Alice in Chains) progression from their song "Am I Inside" and then the singer comes in and then well...all hell breaks loose and it goes straight into their second song "Sun rises down". Just awesome. I can't describe it any other way.

But yeah I just listened to the entire album twice. Every chorus to each song is just so hummable that you just get carried off with the melody. And being a musician, I really enjoy the fact that they use unconventional chord and note progressions. Whether people realize it or not, it has a HUGE impact on the music because 98% of the songs on the radio all follow similar chord progressions which is why so many bands sound so similar (punk bands especially). But Acroma went a different route and it is beautiful. Please do anything you have to to get this album. It is so worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acroma GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!, August 14, 2003

'Orbitals' by Acroma is possibly the most well rounded overall album since Pearl Jam's 'Ten' or Rush's 'Signals'. One can easily hear the influences of several current and past great artists in Acroma's work. "Careless One's", which builds from the subconcious hum to a great external roar serves as a wonderful introduction to the album's quality of production. Songs that follow such as 'Sun Rises Down' and 'Sweat' harken to the 'wasp in a coke can' guitar effects of Edge from U2 as well as hints of Tool and Pearl Jam (before Pearl Jam became unlistenable) The lyrics and wide open sound of "Wash Away" make it a natural AOR single. "Motive" displays the bands expert musicianship with Tom Collins channeling Geddy Lee's bass chops and an interlude that rebuilds in tempo to a climax that is sure to give most listeners goosebumps. "Perfect" and "On That Day" show the bands versitility and are about as good as rock and roll gets. This is a great album to share with others and I can't wait to see more.
Respectfully Submitted
