Sometimes Unknowns Impress.,

Acroma is another one of those good bands didn't hit it big or really get any radio play at all. It's actually kind of sad how so many unknown bands like doubleDrive, Lifer, Mad at Gravity, and Sinch don't do well due to the fact that the bigger bands of mainstream radio drown them out. Acroma fits perfectly into the mess as a band that probably would have done a whole lot better if it had been the first of its kind. "Orbitals" is actually a really good album that fans of Mad at Gravity or A Perfect Circle should check out. I enjoyed pretty much all of the cd I had picked up shortly after hearing "Don't Think Just Move" on Internet radio. My favorite tracks on this album are "Sun Rises Down", "Don't Think Just Move", "Sweat", and "Orbitals". My track ratings are as follows...
1. Careless Ones (Intro) - 9.5/10 2. Sun Rises Down - 10/10 3. Sweat - 10/10 4. Wash Away (Some Desert Night) - 9.5/10 5. Don't Think Just Move - 10/10 6. Motive - 9/10 7. Perfect - 8/10 8. Big Karma Now - 9/10 9. Distance - 6/10 10. Orbitals - 10/10 11. On That Day - 9/10 12. Slow Down - 8.5/10 13. Take The Pain - 7.5/10 Overall: 89% B+ It just goes to show you, just because the band didn't make it big doesn't mean they aren't good. Maybe you may not find it as good as I do but I'm positive you should find something you like on this cd if you are a fan of music style like A Perfect Circle.

The greatest thing that never happened...,

This was a bitter sweet moment for me after finishing listening to this album. One of the most awesome audio experiences of my life yet tragic becuase I'll never hear another album from them.
I am a HUGE fan of Tool and APC and was just blown away when I heard this album. I got chills when I heard "Don't Think Just Move". It just reeked of APC and I LOVED IT!!! I heard "Sun Rises Down" on The Torch on XM radio (was Acroma a Christian band? Cause Torch is a Christian station). Anyways, I heard it and just instantly got this great vibe and started humming the tune and after listening to the album realized that every song is like that. The album kicks off with an eerie calm that you don't really know what to expect. It has a haunting and etherial feel to it and then this incredibly cool guitar lick comes in reminicent of Jerry Cantrell's (Alice in Chains) progression from their song "Am I Inside" and then the singer comes in and then well...all hell breaks loose and it goes straight into their second song "Sun rises down". Just awesome. I can't describe it any other way. But yeah I just listened to the entire album twice. Every chorus to each song is just so hummable that you just get carried off with the melody. And being a musician, I really enjoy the fact that they use unconventional chord and note progressions. Whether people realize it or not, it has a HUGE impact on the music because 98% of the songs on the radio all follow similar chord progressions which is why so many bands sound so similar (punk bands especially). But Acroma went a different route and it is beautiful. Please do anything you have to to get this album. It is so worth it.

Acroma GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!,
By Lance Feray (Spring, tx USA) - See all my reviews

'Orbitals' by Acroma is possibly the most well rounded overall album since Pearl Jam's 'Ten' or Rush's 'Signals'. One can easily hear the influences of several current and past great artists in Acroma's work. "Careless One's", which builds from the subconcious hum to a great external roar serves as a wonderful introduction to the album's quality of production. Songs that follow such as 'Sun Rises Down' and 'Sweat' harken to the 'wasp in a coke can' guitar effects of Edge from U2 as well as hints of Tool and Pearl Jam (before Pearl Jam became unlistenable) The lyrics and wide open sound of "Wash Away" make it a natural AOR single. "Motive" displays the bands expert musicianship with Tom Collins channeling Geddy Lee's bass chops and an interlude that rebuilds in tempo to a climax that is sure to give most listeners goosebumps. "Perfect" and "On That Day" show the bands versitility and are about as good as rock and roll gets. This is a great album to share with others and I can't wait to see more. Respectfully Submitted Lance Feray

I'm a big fan of Tool and APC. If you like Tool and APC you'll mostly like Acroma. Actually, if you enjoy quality music you'll enjoy this CD. The singer sounds like a young Maynard. The music has great progression. I just don't understand why this band never took off. This band is much better than most of the crap they play on the radio. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. I heard the band broke up. I hope they get back together and make some more great music. Support the band and buy this album. I highly recommend it!

I can't understand how Acroma never made it big...they had everything: talent, creative songwriting, and a pure rock 'n' roll sound that you'd think would have the same mass-appeal as Creed or 3 Doors Down (although Acroma's music is much better). I bought "Orbitals" on the strength of hearing one song ("Sun Rises Down") on a local college radio station only ONE TIME...something I've never done before. And I don't regret the impulse-buy for a second...every track is supremely listenable, and several are excellent. How ironic that this band is from my home state, that they got a contract with a major label (Republic/Universal), and yet I never heard of them until after their break-up (and only realized they were local after I bought the CD & read the liner notes)! Admittedly, I don't go to clubs very often, but I do listen to local radio stations a LOT -- you'd think they'd have been proud of these talented home-town boys & given them some serious airplay (after all, they're far better than fellow Utah band The Used, in my opinion). All I can think is that Acroma were poorly-managed & even more poorly promoted. I guess all we can hope for is that they might reunite someday & give it another go. For now, I strongly recommend you buy "Orbitals" & enjoy!

I was extreemly leery about buying this when I listened to the sample tracks mostly because the singer sounded a lot like MAYNARD from TOOL and APC. Big fan of MAYNARD. Not a fan of what I like to call 'fanbands', that pretty much rip off their idols. ACROMA turned out to be much, much more than a fanband. The vocalist of this band has a similar voice and singing style to MAYNARD, however, the professionalism on this record makes that fact fade quickly. ORBITALS is a well written, catchy, pop/rock opus that shakes the ground. There are moments where you might think you're listening to TOOL (or APC), but these guys do such a good job of creating passionate music that this CD could very well work as an extension to that style. Don't get me wrong, ACROMA has their share of creativity also. All musicians are giving it their all, and the result is a well polished act with great crunchy distortion interweaved with moments of beautiful hook. The choruses of all tunes ring out with anthemic hummability, making the perfect mix of pop with rock'n'roll. Sure, the influences are right there, but by the time you reach the end of the album there is an incredible satisfaction gained. A nice package all together with all tracks standing out as good with a pristine production that sounds great cranked on a badass sound system. ORBITALS rocks.

Best Rock record in a decade!,

Wow, what a breath of fresh air. .... Orbitals stands out as a truly fine collection of great music. It sets a tone that is inspiring because it comes from within, it powerfully resonates with everyone I know that has listened to it, including my wife and 13 year old son and his friends. Acroma has created something timeless in the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam that is still modern and unique, with a flavor of Tool and even 3 Doors Down. They explore many emotions, not just anger, and even that is dealt with in a hopeful way. I love the kickin energy of Motive, the soulful desire of Sweat, the never give up hope of Sun Rises Down. Excellent musicianship, great thoughtful lyrics. To sum it up, buy this CD. It will become one of your favorites. It is mine.
