Lewis's maniacal energy shocked a nation when he hit radio and TV (The Steve Allen Show) in 1957 with "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire".

This hormone-exuding, piano-pounding wild man was insanely off the scale when it came to physical movement, a feat difficult to achieve when your instrument is an immovable piano! Forget Elvis's hip shaking or Pete Townsend's guitar smashing -- when Jerry Lee kicked out the piano bench, it was a signal that all the stops were thrown away. Tip: If you want to SEE Lewis at his peak, buy the DVD "I Am What I Am."

Sam Philips signed Lewis in 1956 at Sun, the same label where Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and many other rock pioneers started. Any Jerry Lee fan needs a collection of his early Sun recordings.

The biggest omission is "Great Balls of Fire." However, if you find this collection at a bargain price, you won't be disappointed. FYI: Sundazed's "Original Sun Singles '56-'60" features 24 tunes-- 8 more than this collection.
