First all-Rosner orchestral survey,
By C. P. Cooman (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Orchestral Music of Arnold Rosner 1 (Audio CD)
This excellent CD showcases Rosner's orchestral music. To this listener, the stand-out selections are the exciting orchestral suite "The Tragedy of Queen Jane"(drawn from Rosner's full-length opera "The Chronicle of Nine") and the evocative and creative "A Shepardic Rhapsody."
Rosner is a significant American musical voice whose work will grab you with its freshness within an appealingly familiar world. Nicholas Palmer and his two regional orchestras from Altoona, PA and Owensboro, KY deserve special commendation for this recording. In a day and age where most American composers have to go abroad to record their music, Palmer and his ensembles are showing a commitment and a high standard of music making in the performance of worthwhile American repertoire. |
