Editorial Reviews

The orchestral works of American composer John Craton, whose music has been compared to that of Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams, encompass wide and varied styles. The selections on the current CD reflect music that is clearly of the current age, along with tastes of the Renaissance and reconstructions of early American operas. Most of the works here are from Craton's six operas. In addition to the operas, the "Ann Putnam Overture" is included, along with excerpts from the ballet "La Boite a musique." All works are rendered on synthesizer by the composer. Although such presentation entails certain musical limitations, the current rendering provides a reasonable emulation of these works.
