The Very Best
I have several recordings of the Orchestral Suites, and this recording is my favorite. I agree that the tempi are sometimes slow, but the sound is sumptuous! These recordings have a really full, smooth sound. Close behind are the Hogwood recordings, whose tempi I like but whose sound is somewhat thinner. The Pinnock recordings are just way too slow....

Slow tempi
I bought this CD because I wanted a period-instrument performance of the Orchestral Suites. I have always been a great fan of Philip Pickett and The New London Consort and they have never disappointed me up to now, but this recording cant't be the best period performance on the market. Of course there are some very good things here and the Suites are played elegantly...

Slow tempi, June 7, 2000

I bought this CD because I wanted a period-instrument performance of the Orchestral Suites. I have always been a great fan of Philip Pickett and The New London Consort and they have never disappointed me up to now, but this recording cant't be the best period performance on the market. Of course there are some very good things here and the Suites are played elegantly and warmley, but the tempi must be among the slowest on CD. Especially the famous "Badinerie" from BWV 1067 played to slow. Buy only this CD if you enjoy slow tempi.
