This CD, originally released in the early 1990's on full-price Marco Polo is worthwhile for including the only recordings of the Esclarmonde and Cendrillon Suites, both attractive and colorful works in the best Massenet style. However, the performances and recording are pretty ordinary and the music fails to sparkle as it should. The Suite No. 1 is better served on a newer Naxos recording, along with Massenet's other more famous suites for orchestra, better played and recorded.
