Editorial Reviews

Review

Prof. Richard E. Schultes, of Harvard University, refers to Dr. Ospina's book in the following terms (extracted fron the Preface): "I found of particular interest the author's observations on a new link in the ecology of pollination wich he calls antipollinators: certain animals that have learned to hide among orchid plants and flowers in order to catch the real pollinators of these plants, a line of study wich was so close to Darwin's interests." --Prof. Richard E. Schultes, Harvard University.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jewels of the forest, December 11, 2003
By

This review is from: Orchids and Ecology in Colombia (Hardcover)
Orchids have attracted the attention of men and women for centuries as attested by Chinese chronicles since the time of Confucius.

Such attraction has prompted the work of important researchers, including Charles Darwin, and has resulted in a worldwide trade of plants and flowers.

However, the best way to enjoy these true jewels of forests (and savahnas) is to see them in their natural habitats, many of which are being currently destroyed in various parts of our planet.

The book "Orchids and Ecology in Colombia" is the best Guide that I know to explore the orchid habitats of one of the richest countries in terms of orchid species.

This review is from: Orchids and Ecology in Colombia (Hardcover)
Orchids have attracted the admiration of men and women for milenia as atested by the Chinese chronicles since the time of Confucius.

Said admiration has prompted interesting academic research (including a book by Darwin) and has developed a large worlwide trade on plants and flowers.

However, the best way to admire these jewels of forests (and savanhas) is to see them in their natural habitats, many of which are being destroyed in many parts of the world.

The book Orchids ans Ecology in Colombia is the best Guide that I know to explore orchid habitats in one of the richest countries in terms of biodiversity.
