I ordered this item on July 9th and now it is the 18th. The eggs still have not been shipped even though the ad says "Usually ships in 2-3 days". I have received no explanation about what is going on and I see no way to contact anyone. The only reason I haven't canceled the order is because I live in a place that makes it difficult to get anything else except for chemical poison. In the meantime, the aphids are multiplying at a fast rate in my greenhouse.

these lacewings arrived with an order of lady bugs, but the bag was a old style sandwich bag with fold over top, the majority of the smaller particles where scattered in the box and stayed stuck to the shipping label via vent holes in the box, i have to assume that a lot of the eggs where lost via those vent holes big enough for pinky finger to fit thru,i returned these since i dont believe 1000 eggs where ever even close to being in the bag since these bugs are so small, and the fact that the bag was not sealed or closed in anyway, just thrown in the box on top of the ladybugs, no packing to keep the bag in place or keep it from shifting around and shaking out the bugs/eggs, orcon needs better packaging

I have been purchasing Lacewings and Ladybugs all summer. This package game in a sandwich bag full of dead lacewings eggs. Nothing has hatched, no movement at all. Very disappointing!

I don't know if these arrived ok. It did take 12 days for them to get here. The bigger issue is that I ordered them at the same time as ladybugs (both Orcon) and they were packed in an unsealed plastic bag (just a fold over top) in the same carton with the ladybugs. The ladybugs were in a plastic container that was supposed to be completely closed, however, there was a packaging defect and they got loose inside the outer container that held the plastic bag with the lacewing eggs. There were ladybugs all inside the lacewing bag. They may have actually eaten them - and since they are mixed with sawdust and you can't actually see them I don't know how to tell if they were ok. If you order these - place them in a separate order to be safe.

So...in an attempt to avoid bug sprays and the like, i have been purchasing a few different predator insects mixed with some plants such as marigolds and garlic instead.
I received these lacewings three days ago (June 18), and sprinkled them around the garden. They came in a little bag with a bunch of rice flakes. The insects themselves are tiny, about the same size as fleas. Anyway, i noticed the area in which i sprinkled them the heaviest was immediately beset my a swarm of black ants. I dont know if they showed up because of the lacewings, the rice flakes, or for some other reason i am not privy to. I put a couple ant traps down, and in the areas that were more isolated, coincidentally the areas most heavily infested, i poured a little gasoline to make a point to the ants. (They havent come back since either). Anyway, that is neither here nor there. The lacewings i put out have disappeared into the foliage. I imagine i will see them as they get bigger and scarier looking, but as of right now, i have nothing further to report. Just make sure you check the bag before chucking it. There were probably twenty to thirty of the lacewings sticking to the inside of the bag after i was done. I brushed them out and into the garden. I will continue to update as i have more to report. August 20th: This really did pan out well. There are lacewings flying around my garden in large numbers, and a few find their way into my home from time to time. Between these little guys, the mantids i hatched, and a resurgence in my ladybug population, i haven't seen even one gnat or aphid all summer, and quite a few of the other pest species have either been decimated or are in such small numbers that they have no impact on my garden. So, for me, the lacewings were a great purchase. Obviously now, they are more of a flower hopping insect now that they are flying around, but they obviously ate well while in their larval state.

Nature's aphid- and whitefly-eating juggernauts!,

I ordered these green lacewings to combat an infestation of aphids and whiteflies. My big gardenia in the backyard had swarms of whiteflies feasting on tender new foliage, as well as aphids on the undersides of the leaves happily munching away. The leaves were blackened with a type of mold which feeds on the sweet excrement of these pests.
I placed some of the lacewing eggs at the base of the tree. Fast forward about 3 weeks, I took a peek at the trunk of the gardenia and saw clusters of the lacewings in their larval form. I can now shake the tree's branches and there are no whiteflies. Also the leaves have cleared up, most of the black mold that had been clinging tenaciously on the leaves is gone, washed away by rain apparently thanks to a lack of food. I'm quite satisfied with this purchase, the green lacewings have largely eliminated a pest that was literally sucking the life out of my gardenia, and enabled me to avoid having to use harsh and potentially carcinogenic chemicals. A suggestion, don't just dump the green lacewing eggs anywhere; try to place them at the base of a tree infested with whatever pests, under a light covering of leaves or underbrush and definitely in the shade, and mist the area to keep it moist. I placed some at the base of a few trees which got direct sun for maybe 50% of a given day, and I fear these may've roasted or migrated into shadier, cooler areas.

I ordered these lacewings, the next day (on the 13th) I recieved an email claiming they were shipped already. It seemed like it was taking a long time so after a while I used "track my package" only to discover it was first brought to UPS on the 19th. They actually shipped it OVER 6 Days and 8 hours after they told me they did. Why lie to me about shipping it?
I was also disappointed with the product. There are supposed to be 1,000 eggs, I counted an average portion and multiplied it out and I would be suprised if I have 400. Upon very close examination I had mostly eggs (as expected), about 10 live larvae, and many skeletonized (dead) larvae. Nothing personal, but that is too many strikes for me. I work hard for my money and I think I will take my business to someone who really wants it. |
