This module is ok, not great by any stretch of the imagination. The 1st module is pretty excellent with it's sandbox approach and I was hoping the follow-up module would repeat the performance. Unfortunately this module is a very typical D&D module being extremely linear and not very imaginative.

Players have to be 5th level to tackle this module. The 1st module leaves the players at 2nd level so you'll have to supplement other adventures in between to level them up to 5. This alone I found strange. It's a rare thing that the succeeding module doesn't pick up where the 1st module left off.

A real simple story where the players help a group of dwarves clear out orcs from their ancestral city in the mountains. Not a whole lot of role-playing and all the monsters would rather fight than talk. And an extremely linear path of where and what the players can do. A real beginners' module IMO.

So I recommend you pass on this module. It's ok, not great.

I was expecting an adventure about slaying orcs, and was initially very excited about this module. The adventure really ran it of steam after the first two sessions and the rest was a bore.

The first 2 sessions have a rough fight against some hippogriffs and crazy water shooting fish with a bridge and waterfall. There are some great moments exploring the pass and discovering its history. Then earthquakes and jumping spiders. And then a gatehouse with traps and a mechanism. This was the high point of the module and every thing after that was unfortunately down hill.

There are orcs. And then orcs, and then orcs. And not only were these orcs the same stat block and abilities as all other orcs, but the same Orc scenario was run an least 3 times with the same monsters.

I would definitely recommend the module's first half, everything else requires a lot of fixing.

At first I was a little disappointed because the story starts out slow. Once I got to the meat of the story it really sucked me in. Varied enemies, high magic, and a truly unique ending took this adventure from good to great.
