Nevil Shute is a great, but neglected, English novelist. Ordeal is one of his first novels, and our book club reviewed it for a recent meeting. I cautioned other readers to read the novel first, and then look at the publication date. The book was first published in Britain as What Happened to the Corbetts. Ordeal is the US publication, with a title that was expected to be more evocative. Give this a try. It is very cheap. then read more of Shute's works and check out his non writing career.
