Any clergy or minister who has anything to do with Christian Burial needs to have one of these close by. The usual involvement is the celebration of the Vigil Prayer Service, the Funeral Liturgy, and the Committal Service. There are other very useful services which foresee other various needs that can arise because of particular circumstances: Prayers after Death (if called upon abruptly), Gathering in the Presence of the Body (where clergy or a minister might assist a family at the opening of a Wake Service in some difficult situations), and the Transfer of the Body (helpful on the day of the Funeral if the Vigil Service could not be done the day before).

It contains a form of the Liturgy of the Hours known as the Office of the Dead. Times may present themselves when the communal praying of either Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer might be a suitable option for a particular family or community.

As a self-contained resource, this book supplies an ample, but not exhaustive, selection of readings from Sacred Scripture that are appropriate for and accustomed to Christian Burial. These include readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and the Gospels.

The book comes with its own Introduction which gives a basic overview of the Rites, Symbols, Gestures, Motions, and possible manners of participation.

Published by the Catholic Book Publishing Co, this is basically the same as the version Order of Christian Funerals: Ritual Edition published by the Liturgical Press. I have always preferred this version. I simply find it more concise, and easier to use and follow when leading any of the services found therein.

Catholic clergymen, this is it: the one you're looking for - if you pray in English, that is. What else can I say?

Be sure that you inspect the book immediately when received. My copy had pages 341 through 356 bound upside down. But I was not able to return the book before the return interval date.

Great book for priests.

As a newly ordained priest, I was very much in need of this rite book. The company was very prompt and organized in sending it. The product was new and unopened.

It's larger than I was expecting, though I should have read the dimensions. But it'll work great.

This is the same book the Priests use for Catholic Funerals.
Most Catholics do not understand the Church teachings and guidelines for Cremation. Before you sign any agreements or pre-plan your funeral you should understand the Order of Christian Funerals.

Christians voluntarily incinerating their bodies, then having them ground to dust, and the Church (any church) that not only legitimizes this, but celebrates it is so theologically bankrupt it isn't funny. What else could be so utterly contrary to the importance of the body, so beautifully expressed in the Church's resurrectional faith, than to destroy one's remains? This is the Roman church's acquiescence to secular modernity, and it is both sad and pathetic! We Orthodox would never allow something like this.
