Biography

Rabbits On The Run

"I was very lucky to be offered a lovely piece of property to build a career on," says Vanessa Carlton. "I started building a house on it, but it wasn't necessarily a house I would want to live in. So I ripped down that house, and I worked with these great lumberjacks to build a really cool cabin—a place I want to drink whiskey in and hang out until the sun rises."

5.0 out of 5 stars So many goodies!!, April 7, 2004
This review is from: Ordinary Day (Audio CD)
This is a great EP!! It has a bunch of goodies inside. My favorite track is the piano/vocal version of "Paradise". I'm guessing they released this because Vanessa never performed it live. Also, there are two live versions of "A Thousand Miles" on this cd. The first live version (Live in England) is the full-band version. So I think the live in Tokyo version is better, as it has only piano and vocals. "Swindler" isn't bad, but I can see why it wasn't included in the Be Not Nobody album--it's sort of odd, it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the songs on the record. But you gotta love the piano! And of course, I forgot about "Ordinary Day"!! On this cd you get the album version of OD, the piano/vocal version, and a HIGH QUALITY video for the song. So if you pop the cd in your comp, you get this cd-extra feature which allows you to view the video.

P.S. Don't buy this from amazon, it's suuuuuper expensive. Get to your nearest Tower and you can get it for $16.99.

Hope this helped!

This is a great song, with excellent lyrics, from a talented young writer. Give it a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Similar to "A Thousand Miles", only less catchy, January 17, 2004
This review is from: Ordinary Day (Audio CD)
Vanessa Carlton has emerged as a pop star aiming to take some of the singer/songwriter intelligence and expression to the masses.

However, one cannot say that her first single managed to achieve this: it was not good even for pop, being utterly tuneless, oddly emotionless and saved only in a very minor way by a few hooks. "Ordinary Day" lacks even that small redeeming feature and one cannot recommend it by any means at all.

There is still less of the piano present in the featureless, heavily synthesised, wishy-washy melody of the song, and none of the feminine expressiveness that so many have overlooked whenever it occurs within the world of popular music.

Not recommended: look elsewhere for female artists with intense mystery and emotional power.
