More About the Author

National Bestselling author, Robyn DeHart's novels have appeared in the top bestselling romance and historical romance lists. Her books have been translated into nearly a dozen languages. Her historical romantic adventure series, The Legend Hunters, were not only bestsellers, but also award-winners, snagging a Reader's Crown and a Reviewer's Choice award. She had three releases in 2013 and 2014 will see four more, all set in the popular historical romance Regency and Victorian eras.

Known for her "strong dialogue and characters that leap off the page" (RT Bookclub) and her "sizzling romance" (Publishers Weekly), her books have been featured in USA Today and the Chicago Tribune. A popular writing instructor, she has given speeches at writing conferences in Los Angeles, DC, New York, Dallas, Nashville and Toronto, among many others.

When not writing, you can find Robyn hanging out with her family, husband (The Professor) a university professor of Political Science and their two ridiculously beautiful and smart daughters, Busybee and Babybee as well as two spoiled-rotten cats. They live in the hill country of Texas where it's hot eight months of the year, but those big blue skies make it worth it.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I've ever read by Robin DeHart and I was saddened at the end when I found out it was a novella - as opposed to a full-length novel - because I didn't want the story to end. I liked Emma and Remy, both funny, smart, well-crafted characters. I loved the spy angle and I'm a sucker for a mystery. And I rooted for the story to come to the predictable end. And though I say the end was predictable, this is not to the story's detriment for me because even though I may know (or at least suspect) where the story and the characters are headed, it's how they get there and what happens in-between that is most interesting to me.

I cannot compare this to other Robin DeHart books but if anyone is looking for a quick, delightful read, No Ordinary Mistress will not disappoint.

A sweet, lovely novella, No Ordinary Mistress was a great read. I really enjoyed reading this quick romance.

Both characters were great. Emma was strong and determined to prove herself as a good spy. Remington was sweet, though I occasionally wanted to shake him for being an idiot. I liked them both.

The romance was good. It was always obvious that Emma and Remington had feelings for each other. They just didn't want to admit it. And, the chemistry between them was always there.

The plot went by quickly. I enjoyed the story and the ending was sweet.

No Ordinary Mistress was a wonderful novella. Romance lovers, if you want a quick, lovely read, look no further

There were several parts to this quick read and each had their strong and weak points. As spies, the mystery and finding out who is selling state secrets is a very large part of the story. I wish there had been a little more background as to what led Remington and Emma to be spying on their marks, but with a novella sometimes something has to go, and the background was it in this one. Since we don't get much backstory on the marks, I found it hard to relate to this aspect of the story and settle into the intrigue.

The second part is the romance. This one was pretty good. Emma was warned that it would be difficult working with a male partner. Close proximity can sometimes mimic intimate feelings, and that's just what they both think at first. But when they separate and still can't keep their minds off each other, they know it may have been more - but now it may be too late.

There was also a bit about women's rights of all things - after all how many female spies were there in the 1800's, and were they respected. The author did a good job of throwing the thought out there, beating it around, and then letting it lie for awhile. Overall this was a fun read, I just wish I could have gotten more into the actual spy part of the story. *This book was received in exchange for an honest review*

The summary of NO ORDINARY MISTRESS drew me to read this book, and while the premise was intriguing and has promise, I felt the short length of the novella didn't do the story justice.

Emma Masterson didn't want to work with fellow agent Remy Hawthorne, because the attraction between them was too intense, and she didn't know how she was going to keep her hands off of him. What happens when she was assigned to play his mistress?

Right from the first page, we are dropped into the thick of the action, with Emma reliving a kiss from the night before with her partner and boss, Remy. And while this snags our attention and interest right off the bat, I also felt this is where the book's flaws are, ultimately. I think I would've liked to witness the couple's first kiss and Emma's firsthand reaction, rather than her later musings. In the same way, a lot of the scenes in the story were told rather than shown, maybe due to meeting some prescribed word count or deadline, and this takes away a lot from the reader's enjoyment of a well-written tale.

As a result, the book has a rushed quality to it, and I was not able to immerse myself fully into the author's world or get invested enough in the characters to care much about them.

Also, it's obvious that this is merely a part of a bigger tale, as Emma's objective to find the villain was never fulfilled, sidelined by the threat to her life.

What do you get when you get a hero and heroine who are both playing at charades, and have a relationship ending in passion? You have a dang good storyline. Spies, intrigue, love, lust. You'll have to read to see how it ends, you'll be happy you did.

Another great escape from Robyn DeHart, who with every story, seems to weave a tale that leaves you laughing and longing for more pages! Both Emma and Remington were well crafted characters, and I was rooting for them from the start. It was a great story filled with excitement!
