Book Description

February 1, 2005 Hearts at Home Book

Ordinary Mom, Extraordinary God is a devotional aimed at the deeper issues of the heart and one that will provide a soothing respite amid chaos. Think of it as Oswald Chambers meets Busy Housewife.

Writer, speaker, and stay-at-home mom Mary DeMuth creatively focuses on the gift of motherhood as she considers

  • resting quietly in the Lord, even on crazy-busy days
  • being thankful for the duties as well as the joys of being a mom
  • offering God a heart to prune so that it can continue to bear good fruit

Personal stories integrated with scriptural truth and probing prayers will help everyday stay-at-home moms remain connected to the most amazing and extraordinary Parent of all parents.

More About the Author

I'm a freelance writer and novelist living in Texas with my husband of nineteen years and my three wonderful children.

I have been writing since 1992, first as a newsletter editor, then as a freelance writer, followed by a fiction and nonfiction author. My articles have appeared in Marriage Partnership, In Touch, HomeLife, Discipleship Journal, Pray!, Bon Appetit, Kindred Spirit, The Writer, and Writer's Digest. For two years I penned a lifestyle column for Star Community Newspapers in Dallas (circulation 100,000). My books include Ordinary Mom, Extraordinary God (Harvest House, 2005), Building the Christian Family You Never Had (WaterBrook, 2006), Watching the Tree Limbs, Wishing on Dandelions (NavPress, both novels releasing in 2006), Authentic Parenting in a Postmodern Culture (Harvest House, 2006), Daisy Chain, A Slow Burn (Zondervan 2009), Life in Defiance (Zondervan 2010), Thin Places: A Memoir (Zondervan 2010), 150 Quick Questions to Get Your Kids Talking (Harvest House 2011), You Can Raise Confident and Courageous Kids (Harvest House, 2001) and The Muir House (Zondervan 2011).

I'm more than my books. I love to cook, try my hand (body!) at triathlons, have a nose ring, and am passionate about singing.

I love to help people overcome a difficult past and blog about it five times a week at http://www.marydemuth.com. My facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/authormarydemuth and you can follow me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/marydemuth

I want to say (like all the other reviewers) that I too enjoyed this book. It is very reflective.

That being said, I wasn't expecting this layout of the book. It is many short stories or short reflections. I was somewhat expecting a "book" to read. I was surprised by this format. I wanted to specifically inform other portential buyers of that fact.

Mary DeMuth has written an insightful book all moms will be able to identify with. Using her life as a backdrop for the challenges and joys all moms face, she finds valuable life lessons in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. Her manner of leading readers to a new way of thinking is gentle, encouraging, friendly and helpful. I benefited immensely and know my kids will too as a result. I highly recommend this book!

What an inspiration! June 29, 2005
Format:Paperback
I just finished Demuth's book and it was wonderful! From the beginning to the final page I smiled, sighed and nodded my head. She has such a talent for weaving words and phrases into a beautiful tapestry of family and faith. I felt included, enlightened and refreshed. I highly recommend it for every mom.
