Heard it at the end of Weeds when they off Peter on the season finale... IMDB board mentioned the group's name and I d/l the song DMFD and liked it. I then bought the CD and it's great. Very Funny!

Mike and the guys from GSG are so freaking talented. This CD gets me through the day! It is wonderful, relaxing and angst riddled all at the same time.

Get Set Go are certainly a unique group. Through the use of happy and often rapid-paced ballads and melodies, lead singer-songwriter Mike TV tells you about his drug problems, his misanthropy, frustrations, antisocial (using the clinical term here) tendencies, plain hopelessness, and how much he wants to kill himself.
But I can safely say this is one of my favorite albums of all time after owning it for a few months and frequently coming back to it. I dig this kind of deceivingly depressing music, and everything about it just works. It's an album I have no problem listening to straight through for the fifteenth time, even if it is a full disc and over an hour long, for better or worse. What really drives the album are the lyrics and the melodies. The lyrics are actually surprisingly deep and make a lot of sense. Many of the songs tell stories (a perfect example is the title track), and it's nice that the lyrics aren't overdone so as to grate on you. That is to say, although it can be somewhat explicit, it's never forced, and it fits the mood well. Mike TV doesn't show as much anger (sans Die MF Die) as he does hopeless, overwhelming angst. Top highlights for me are "Crying Shame", "Ordinary World", and "Sleep". "Crying Shame" in particular is as raw as music gets to me. It's more melancholy and slower than the other tracks, but the lyrics, despite the obvious themes of suicide and drugs, are particularly a joy to listen to and sing along with. "Ordinary World" is also a slower track, but the stories told are vivid and heartrending, and the song leaves a great impact. "Sleep" is a much faster-paced track that's one of the catchiest on the album, and the breakdown near the end makes a really nice ringtone. The album never drags too much. But, because of the somewhat rigid musical style, some songs tend to sound too similar. I don't mind skipping "Do Over" for its awkward lyrics and guitar work, and near the end there are a few throwaways, such as "The Old Ennui" and "So You're Gonna Die". Now, I wouldn't play any of these songs at all with anyone around. Right into "Crying Shame", they'd likely think this is a common pop-rock album, until Mike serenades "Hey, hey, hey/What do you do when you're done with living, but you are still alive?/I don't want to kill myself, but I can't survive/hey, hey, hey" This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I prefer this album far over the other Get Set Go releases due to its minimalism and rawness; the songs are somewhat simple, but this often complements the bleakness of the lyrics. Other Get Set Go releases seem too noisy for my tastes, which for me hurts the emotional impact. Take a listen at the samples to get a pretty good idea of what you're getting into. Awesome.

GSG a fast raising star,

This new get set go album is soon becoming a personal favorite of mine. You should really buy this toe-tapping cd that is full of catchy and relentlessly true lyrics. Plus, this cd has 21 songs for only 11 bucks which is much better than the 7 songs I bought for 10 bucks...

CUSS ME OUT!,
By
This review is from: Ordinary World (Audio CD)
Hilarious at times, so tragic at others--but GET SET GO really likes to cuss. But they place the cussing in such strategic locations within the lyrics. Not just cussing for the sake of cussing--if that makes any difference. Very angry music. I purchased this CD for the 5th track (discovered on Gray's Anatomy soundtrack) and was hoping I was going to walk away with more songs I'd laugh at and love. I enjoy some of the lyrics, but most of them are pretty rough, tragic, and sad. The music is so catchy, though! I can't help myself. But then, after listening to it, I have catchy music with cuss-tragic lyrics running through my head. It's like a sick joke. This addictive set of tunes with such mean and gut-level lyrics. Don't listen to this with your kids, your parents, or your church group. You will be disowned. But, in the car on the way home--on days you hate everyone... that might work. I want this group to keep working! I want to support their art! But, I also want something I can listen to in front of my kids... that would be the best mix!
