This review is from: Oreck Cordless Electrikbroom Floor Vacuum
This may seem a bit costly for some people, but it is WORTH IT! Oreck's CQI department earned their money. The only other cordless vac is Sharp's and it does not have the hand vac option.
The old model has the battery built in and limits the storage option. This model's battery pops out and plops into a recharging station. I also love this feature because the whole vac does not have to be wasted when the battery dies.
This model is much lighter than the old.
The filtering system is much better. It's basically 2 filters. The inner filter is pleated and (protecting the motor?) does a good job of picking up fine dust.
The dirt caddy is clear. I wonder if my old model would have lasted longer if I had been better about emptying the dirt caddy. Now I have no question or excuse.
The storage of the attachment is much easier, although I haven't use it.
The handle doesn't telescope like the old model. Since I'm only 5'1" I don't have to bend to use this model. But the telescope feature was a bit of hassle actually. Either I didn't tighten the nob enough and the handle would push in or my kids would tighten it too much and the handle was stuck at full length.
The only inconvenience (if it really is) is you have to disassemble the floor vac to use the hand vac option. You disconnect the handle and floor piece. BUT, this new model is so much better that I feel almost silly mentioning this. Actually, I've used the hand vac only once.
I haven't truly tested the battery life. We use this vac so much I don't want to be inconvenienced by waiting for it to recharge, so when it's not in use, the battery is in the charger. I've noticed the recharging appears to take about an hour (haven't timed it) after completing a real sweep job vs just a light pick-up.
Now the CQI nerds need to develop a cordless full size vac. I'll be one of the first buyers!
10/2011 F/U The battery no longer charges fully judging by the sound and suction power. I'm not sure if that's because I didn't pay attention to the charger stand being unplugged and the battery running completely out. I seem to remember that's suppose to be good for batteries at sometimes. I've had it since February 2011 and the battery started peatering out about 6 months later.
My new rating is down to 4 stars.
