Oregon's 12-volt electric chain saw sharpener can keep your chain saw cutting like new. Since the 72-inch power cord clamps to a 12-volt battery, the sharpener can be used either in the shop or out in the woods. The high-impact plastic housing is designed to stay cool during use, and our only complaint is that the plastic is very smooth, with no textured grip. The sharpener comes with three sharpening stones: 3/16-, 5/32-, and 7/32-inch.

The directions are the worst, but if you can figure it out, you will be happy you did.

Save some money by just using your electric drill to sharpen it or get a higher end product.

I like the product and once I figured out how to use it I was happy. I think it should come with better instructions as I had to figure it out by looking at a couple of pictures and I am still not sure if I am using it right, but I am able to cut what I need.

Don't let these reviews sway you, pick one up right away you won't regret it. The directions are the worst, but if you can figure it out, you will be happy you did. I tried the 5/32" file and that was a lot of work and because I have pins in my arms could not put enough strength into filing the chain so it only lasted cutting 4-5 tree branches before it went dull. Picked this baby up at local Lowe's and couldn't be more happy. Sharpening now is quick and easy and not a pain in the behind it was with manual filing. Excellent product, especially for a homeowner who only needs his chain saw once a year.

I have used this for a couple years.

It isn't very durable. Shortly after I began using it had to put a nylon strap around it to hold it together.

Also the knob that you tighten to hold the sharpening "sticks" is not easy to work with and doesn't hold very good unless you use a pliers to tighten it in place. This is a problem since the knob is hard to get at with your fingers and/or pliers.

Save some money by just using your electric drill to sharpen it or get a higher end product. You just need to match the angle of the sharpening with the angle of the chainsaw teeth.

I never owned a chain sharpener before so I bought a lot of new chains. When I saw a neighbor using his Oregon Sure Sharp and how easy it was to sharpen a chain, I bought one for myself.

When my saw starts spewing sawdust instead of chips, I know it's time to sharpen; this is usually about the same time I run out of gas, so gassing up is a good time to sharpen and re-tension the chain.

Operation is simplicity itself; the only trick is to keep the tool at the correct angle for your chain and perpendicular to the bar. My 16" chain has 28 teeth so it takes me 3-4 minutes to sharpen it.

Some reviewers have complained about the quality of the Sure Sharp. I've only been using mine for a month (about 20 uses) so I can't comment on it's long-term reliability. However, so far no complaints. Very happy with my purchase and it was only a few dollars more than buying a new chain.

As an aside, I just purchased additional grinding stones from Lowe's for about $4.50 for a package of 3 stones. My Lowe's store doesn't carry the Sure Sharp tool but at least I can get replacement stones locally. Home Depot had neither.

I would expect a much better quality product from Oregon ... while it sharpened my several saws reasonably well, the plastic body cracked and fell apart and the guides became useless.

My son gave me one of these after hearing me complain about hand sharpening my chainsaw. GOOD SON! I have used mine for almost 10 years and I am very happy with it. The 12 volt aspect is great. I do a quick sharpening with every gas fill up, and a chain now last through many cords before needing replacing. Just use the correct size stone for your chain and follow the directions.

Works but the collet will not center the sharpener burr. I tried the burr in my Dremmel and it is true, what do you expect Chinese
